CZ P01

I've wanted to try out a DA/sa for a while now, and I'm starting to lean towards cz.

I enjoy my glock 19 immensely, and it's not going to go anywhere, but other than a brief experiment with a 1911 I've mostly just owned poly striker guns, and do if like to try something different.

My question is, how is the trigger out of the box?
There seem to be some complaints, but it's always hard to tell what people are comparing to.
For example - while I don't find it actively pleasurable - I don't have any problem shooting a stock glock trigger, and some people seem to find them distractingly bad.

The other question I have is how good can you get the trigger? Say, relative to a Sig p229.

CZ custom offers a trigger job and short reset trigger for not s whole lot of money, but I don't know how good it makes it.
I'd like to get a gun that could be smithed into something "great".

I'm just not a fan of 1911s or large, target-sized handgun.

1911 is not da/sa so no point even mentioning even though you probably wont find a nicer trigger. My Cz compact clone has a good trigger out of the box. You can have just about any trigger smithed to your liking.

IMHO the P01 will have a some what rough stiff DA/SA trigger right out if the box. David at CGW can make the gun much better. Not 1991 good but great for a DA/SA gun but you will have to replace some parts.

I have the PCR - which is basically the P-01, but without the rail. The DA trigger is ok out of the box - not great, but not bad either - but breaks in really nicely over time. The P-07's trigger is honestly a lot better out of the box, but as I understand it doesn't improve as much.

Cajun Gun works offers drop-in parts that will help, too. I just installed a lighter mainspring and an extended firing pin in mine, which improved the DA pull quite noticeably for just $44.

Dayman, my P-01 trigger weights are averaging 5.1# SA, and 10# even DA, and that's bone stock with no mods.

George, you are correct in saying that out of the box the P-07 trigger is better however, it doesn't improve over time (at least my two haven't with well over 1k rounds each individually).

My P-01 however, has a much noticeable difference now than when I first got it, and in a very positive way (with an almost identical round count).

I bought my PCR new in 2000, so it may be different from what they sell now. I already had a 75B, and I noticed that both the DA, and SA trigger pulls on the PCR seemed lighter, and crisper right out of the box. The mainspring feels lighter than the 75B. Maybe I got lucky, but I never felt the need to improve the PCR's trigger, and it has only become better with use.

Thanks for the feedback, and I fixed my typo (my new phones auto correct is still learning).
That's basically what I was expecting. I like the idea of DA/sa with a decocker better than the idea of the glock trigger, but I've never actually used one to any great extent. And I do quite well with the glock system.
I do shoot my gp100 in DA a fair amount.
I only brought up the 1911 because they seem to always come up when someone discuses triggers. And a sao is nothing in interested in at all.
In retrospect since I shoot DA/sa ruger revolvers a lot that might have been a better comparison to ask for.

I just got a GP-100 - still unfired, so I can give you a great out-of-the-box comparison. The P-CR's DA was lighter from the start, but not as smooth. After about 500 rounds, though, the DA was both lighter and smoother than the new Ruger. There's no comparison on SA - the GP-100 is just plain awesome.

I have to say, though, I agree with you completely about how subjective it all is. I've never found anything to complain about in the Glock triggers, and the internet led me to believe the GP-100 would need a trigger job out of the box. I bought it because I loved the rental I fired, but my new gun turned out to be just as nice right out of the box. I'll probably polish up the action when I get a chance, but I think all revolver triggers tend to stack more than autos because they're tasked with more actions (move the hammer, turn the cylinder, raise the transfer bar).

I adore my P01. It's my daily CC pistol and I use it to good effect in matches.

The stock trigger pull is so-so and typically the first thing I do with all my CZ's is install a lighter hammer spring, which helps with pull weight. It's cheap and effective. I also contacted Dave at CGW and he sent the proper height fiber optic front sight which really brings the gun on target fast.

One caveat. If you're used to a G19, the steeper grip angle of the P01 will take some getting used to. I sold my G21 due to this, just couldn't point shoot accurately with the Glock grip angle.
