CZ P-07

Anyone have experience with the new P-07? Has it been reliable for you? Enjoy the trigger? I'm thinking about picking one up in the near future.

Had the chance to handle one at a LGS and the trigger was UNREAL. Nicer than any $3000 1911, tanfoglio or really any other handgun I have ever handled, especially in single action. I don't know if it was just that particular gun or if they are all that way but it has been on my short list ever since. You should also check out the p09. I understand it is exactly the same gun but bigger and its regular mags hold 19.

The P07 is a premier high capacity medium sized hammer fired carry-able gun, with among the best ergos of any handgun and an outstanding factory trigger.

The only drawbacks are currently pricey magazines and lack of aftermarket sights. I expect this will change.

The P-07 is an amazing pistol that can be made even better with parts from Cajun Gun Works. Superb trigger, reliability, accuracy, and ergos. A steal at current prices.

I'm a long-time CZ enthusiast -- although I do own and enjoy other guns. I've had a bunch fo CZs over the years. (I still have a slightly-tuned 85 Combat and custom AT-84s [CZ pattern] and a Sphinx SDP [which is like a custom CZ, maybe on steroids.])

I recently picked up a used first gen. P-07 and can't say how much I like the gun -- and the trigger is great. Very accurate. Almost as nice as the Sphinx SDP -- not nearly as refined -- but nearly as expensive, either. I'll trade my way into a P-09, one of these days... I don't buy many new guns, anymore.

For those with the P-07s, standard Mec-Gar mags for the compact CZs will work (with slightly lower capacity), and the Canik Stingrag-C mags also work well. If you want range mags, that's the way to go. (These other mags are slightly slimmer than the P-07 factory mags, but work -- and stay locked in place.)

Thank you for telling us this - this was a big reason I've been hesitant to buy a P-07/P-09, as I didn't want to have to spend a couple hundred bucks on new mags. I've got a bunch of extra compact Mec-Gar mags that I had assumed were too short for the P-07, but if I can use them in the P-07, that makes it easier.

If the compact mags work, I assume that a 16-round mag with the SP-01 base plate will also fit?

I don't have a P-09, so I'm working from conjecture.

For the P-07, since that's a full-size mag, I can't imagine it wouldn't fit -- as it'll stick out about 3/4" below the grip.

I'd visit one of the many CZ forums and ask there, or just take some mags with you to a gunstore that has the gun in question -- if buying locally.

To me, the size of the P-07 is nearly ideal... I may get a P-09, but there's no rush.

I absolutely love my 75BD and I'm a big fan of CZ but just have no experience with their poly guns. Glad to hear the good reviews. Will the CZ 75 mags work in them?

Mine has been solid. It was a bit picky at first with light 115 grain cheap ammo, loved hotter stuff.

Once it loosened up a bit, it runs everything fine now.

Trigger is nice, it is accurate as all get out.

My complaint is that I had bought with the idea to carry cocked and locked, as I'm not terribly proficient on my first DA/SA round (I mostly carry/shoot Glocks and 1911's).

The safety is too small for me to reliably manipulate under more stressed conditions (or when wearing gloves), and so I'm (im)patiently waiting for CGW or someone to make an extended safety lever.

By too small do you mean it doesn't extend enough from the frame for you? Its perimeter is pretty big compared to a lot of the competition.

I suspect that if you buy a replacement lever, you could work up an add-on piece (attached using small screws from the side of the leaver that is against the frame, and epoxy) that could be used to build up or add width to the lever. Your thumb could have more to grab that way.

Heck. Just gluing something onto the lever might work -- you want MORE stuff to press against.

I may have to order one and try THAT myself...

With standard CZ 75Bs, starting from the half-cock notch shortens the pull and lightens it a bit -- but I don't notice as much difference with the P-07 (although in theory, they supposedly work in a similar manner.)

Out of all the pistols I have owned throughout the years, the P-07 is my favorite by far. It has the best combination of things I want in an overall general purpose pistol; plenty of capacity, accurate as can be, a great trigger in both modes, feels like it was made specifically for my hand, and it's easy to carry comfortably all day long. There is only one pistol that I see being able to dethrone the P-07 for me, and that is the Sphinx SDP Compact...

Yep, it sits too flat against the frame. I don't have huge hands and my thumb needs to stretch to release it reliably.

I've debated just that, and have seen a pretty neat example on the CZ forum. Haven't gotten around to it yet. It makes a fine DA/SA range gun for me, and sure is a joy to shoot.
