CZ P-07 vs Sprg XD9

Looking for a new polymer pistol. Made up my mind down to two guns. The p-07 or the xd9. Im really stuck because both fit so nicely in my hand and I dont really perfer the triggers over eachother I like them both equally. The only thing i really think that the xd makes me happier about is the 4 inch barrel. Which is what i was looking for. Basically wanted a gun similar to a glock 19 but with a different grip. SA/DA is nice as im used to that along as striker fired. So if there is any good advice on this decision because i am seriously just thinking about waiting a month and buying both. These guns are just so close to being equal in my eyes its very hard to choose.

Myself i can't count on "how a gun feels in my hand" to make the best choice for me. I need to shoot whatever I am considering and ideally a box of ammo through it. With my Walther PPQ however I knew it was love after the first magazine. :D

Good luck in your choice.

I guess one more thing to add to the xd over the cz is its quantity in aftermarket parts. not that im looking to buy alot of doo dads for a nightstand/plinker gun but its a good thing to know. Also the xd9 is about 80 bucks less, so thats a good 300 rounds of 9mm.

Between the two, I'd look at the P-07.

If you're open to suggestions, the Sig P320 Compact is nearly identical in size to the Glock 19 with a spectacular trigger. Doesn't need anything. Comes with night sights.

I don't even know how to compare those two, cz all the way. have you shot these guns ad felt how fantastic the cz trigger is yet? if this isn't for a carry gun, no competition. my opinion of course

I like both... so I can' really tell you.

The XD is a nice shooter, the extra mass of the slide makes it handle recoil pretty well.

The P-07 is a CZ, and I love the CZ design... the recoil is a little stiffer but more linear.

Get both...

I have owned two P-07s. One had excessive recoil, the other seemed to have a short chamber and wouldn't feed everything. Both seemed cheaply made, at least the frame seemed cheap.

I have also owned two XD9s and still have an XD 40.

To me, the XD is more solidly made. That would be my choice.

Get the P-07.....A top quality gun with a great reputation for reliability. My p-09 has the best feeling poly frame of any plastic guns I've owned or own. It's been dead solid perfect through 3000+ rounds so far (Sept 14). Mine will eat anything and is really easy to reload for since the chamber doesn't seem to mind pretty much any AOL round I've tried.

Worst part about the XD is the what to me feels like Mattel like plastic material they make the frame out of. Second worst problem is the goofy grip safety, if there's a way to defeat it. and get the pistol to sit a little lower in the hand like the CZ's then it wouldn't be a bad choice for a striker gun. That is if you couldn't find a Glock for M&P on the shelf instead.

My only real complaint about the XD is the trigger. I really don't like it at all. It's very smooth, it just has zero 'wall'. It just rolls right through the break. Some people like this, but it doesn't work well for me.

I don't mind the ergos or the height or anything like that.

Have both

I have both. I use my P07 every month in idpa matches. My wife uses her XD9 in the same matches. They have both been excellent pistols with zero issues. I prefer my P07 because I like DA/SA hammer fired guns. She likes the xd because it fits her hands well. At the end of the day pick what you can shoot best and can afford. You really cant go wrong with either.

On a side note the magazines for the XD cost half what the cz mags run. $23 xd vs $48cz. Accessories seem to be more readily available for the xd as well.

man this went both ways so i just bought the xd and put the p-07 on layaway. The reason i went with the xd first is because i like to have a good 5-6 mags for each gun i own. the cz would cost the price of another gun to do just that.

Are there not mecgar mags available for the CZ P-07 yet?

Mecgar CZ75 mags can be had for $25... but 75 mags don't fit the P-07 or P-09.

The CZ 75 mags will work in the PO7 but not the P09. They are a bit long and wiggle but I use them all the time as range mags and they always feed.

SIG P228 mags by Mec-Gar will work in the P-07, too, but the slide won't lock back with the last shot.

Installing P-07 followers in the P228 mag lets them lock back. Either functions fine. That gives you 15 rounds rather than 16, but they're available for $24 (CDNN) and 18 round Mec-Gars for the 228 are available for $33, still cheaper than CZ factory mags (at least until Mec-Gar starts to offer them as after-market mags.)

If I can find followers for the CZ P-07 for a reasonable price, I'll consider going THAT route... It may be, too, that standard CZ followers will work, too, when installed in the SIG mags. I haven't tried THAT, yet, and I have a bunch of CZ mags. A 18-round Mec-Gar mag with a CZ follower sounds interesting.

Wow that's a pretty awesome tip, thanks!

As a note, the recent production CZ P-07 9mm mags are also 15 rds as they went with a different spring assembly in the magazine due to some complaints with feeding from the 40SW magazines, IIRC.

This is EXTREMELY interesting and the first I've heard of it. I'll have to try that out!

Thanks Walt!

I put a standard CZ follower in the SIG P228 mag and it locked back the slide. I haven't tried it at the range, yet, but I suspect it'll work fine. It'll probably be a week or so until I can actually try one out.
