Howdy guys,

New question to you from me at least.:D I'm going to get the 75BD and am wondering which caliber you prefer in this weapon. I've heard that the cz was made for the 9mm, but does that affect the reliability or functionality of the 40? I'm a college student, so let me know your opinions because i want all the information i can get before i make my final decision. Also, what loads do you shoot and what loads do you carry in your gun for self defense? Favorite brands of ammo? Tell me anything you think i should consider, because i value your opinions.

Sincerely,

agjrc02

Both the 9mm and .40 cal CZs are good. Can't really say which are better. Both the 9mm and .40cal have some very effective loadings as well.

I shoot a CZ 75B 9mm. The biggest advantage over the .40 is that it is available with 15 round high-cap mags. The factory made up a bunch before the ban went into effect so you can still get them direct from the factory ($48 online, less through private sources). It is my most accurate gun and is very reliable.

If you want a CZ in .40cal the CZ 75 is a great gun but I'd also suggest you look into the CZ40. It is as good a gun, has 1911 style grips (may make no difference to you) and is a little less expensive.

Since you are a college student I'd suggest the 9mm. 9mm ammo is available in loadings that are highly effective for self-defense (there is +P ammo if you'd prefer, I like regular strength Federal Personal Defense using HydroShok hollowpoints and the Winchester Silver Tip). 9mm is also available in very cheap practice rounds. You can get 100 round boxes of the Winchester USA brand from Walmart for about $10. Since you are a college student I assume that the economy of shooting the cheaper bargain brands of 9mm for target practice will be an important consideration (.40cal ammo is much more expensive than the cheaper 9mm, though in defensive loadings all ammo is pretty comprable).

You cant go wrong with either really. The 9mm is more common and cheaper to shoot. The 40 isnt a 9mm gun with a bigger barrel...its got a bigger slide and was basically built around the .40 round. Both will function as good as they get...Shoot well

CZ in 9mm v. CZ in .40.

Well, I can tell you what I've seen.

An acquaintance, a self-described "CZ-nut," has several 9mm CZs that range from VERY accurate to tack drivers. Then he picked up an absolutely beautiful duo-tone CZ75B in the frequently uncertain .40SwishyWalker. I was at the range when he took it for a spin. It's accuracy can only be charitably described as "pie plate," and that's from "combat distance." From a rest at 25yds, I'm pretty sure we'd be talking "minute-of-barn-door."

The guy's since sold it, largely because he's also an accuracy-nut. I think I was more disappointed than he was. :(

This CZ was a beautiful, flawless looking piece and I'd hoped it's reputed tack-driving capabilities would continue with the increase in caliber. It certainly has in the .45acp CZ97, no complaints there.

My opinion, but between the two I'd stick with the 9mm version.

agjrc02,

I have both calibers in the standard CZ 75B. Both are extremely accurate, with a slight edge to the .40 cal. version. I've had both for over a year now and couldn't recommend either one enough. Never a failure to feed or failure to eject. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with a CZ.
