went to the range today with my fairly new,1000 rounds,97b.not a glitch or any problems at all up til now.I shoot mostly my own reloads using mainly
plated round nose until i tried a coupla of 200 grain semiwads.wouldn't feed
at all.anybody else with similar problem?
besides that this gun has quickly become my favorite.45!!!

99% of the time, when these kind of problems appear, it's ammo related. Probably, your 97B just doesn't like the semi-wadcutter ammo. Many guns don't like semi-wadcutter ammo and/or lighter bullets.
In the old days, if you wanted to shoot semi-wadcutter light bullets, you had to have the feed ramps altered on the 1911. Just go back to the bullets you were shooting, or try a heavier version of the semi's.

YES (MY 45 WITNESS WON'T FEED THEM EITHER)

Not all guns will fire all available ammo; avoid unreliable ammo.

Plenty of great 'ball' loads out there in every price range.

I've found through searching this site that the CZ97 often malfunctions if the OAL is on the long side. Not out of spec, just on the long side. Otherwise, the gun should be reliable.

feeding problem update

i found out it's just the way the barrel is designed.round noses of any type completely dependable but with semiwad cutters it can't feed the cartridge completely in.thanks for the advice.

I will chime in here with my standard refrain. With 230 hardball loads, you cannot get reliable function out of the 97b is your load is over 1.272 (Max is 1.275). I have found that 1.268 is about perfect for reliability.

I have experiemented with 200 grain truncated cone bullets and found that I had to load them significantly shorter. I am still working up loads, but this is probably what you will need to do.

Remember, shorter means less volume, so less powder is needed for the same velocity and pressure (more importantly).

I have been using lead 200 grain swc and plated swc bullets at 1.250" COL successfully in the CZ97 - all my reloads. So far no ftf or fte problems with 2000 rounds through it. The 200 grain SWC is the only thing I have shot through it, except for the first 200 rounds, and that was S&B 230 grain ball.
