CZ 97 or Ruger P97?

Looking for a non-carry .45. I like SA/DA. Has anyone had experience with either of these two? Thanks!

I have a Ruger P97. It is the sweetest shooting DA/SA .45 I have ever shot including Sigs, H&K's, and other well known makers. The SA trigger pull on my P97 is awesome, and the accuracy is superb. Ergonomics on the Ruger are great too.

I don't have experience with the CZ, but I hear that its a good pistol.

If you take a look at them you'll want the CZ..follow that first impression :) CZ makes excellent pistols that are quality all the way. You can't go wrong with CZ steel or alloy frames.

You can't go wrong with either. The big difference is cost (the CZ is more expensive) and size -- the CZ is pretty damned big. (Finding a holster may be a problem.)

Were I to buy one tomorrow, it would be the CZ, but I wouldn't feel badly if I could only get a P-97.

The CZ has, I think, the potential to be more accurate, and the trigger can be tuned to be far better -- but out of the box they'll be pretty close.

Both are reliable, durable, and accurate, with a slight edge to the CZ in accuracy.

Both would be fine choices IMO. The CZ holds 10 rds of 45 ACP while the Ruger only holds 8. The Ruger is lighter at 30oz while the CZ is a hefty 40oz. The CZ is all steel (reason it so heavy) while the Ruger has a polymer frame.

If I had to choose between the two and didn't plan to carry the weapon I would go with the CZ hands down. If I did plan to carry, it would be a tossup.

I don`t have any experience with the CZ-97 but I have a CZ-75 and a P-97. They`re both great guns. The CZ is easier to shoot well but they`re both quite accurate and fun to shoot. :) Marcus

CZ 97 !!!! Are you kidding me ? It's the obvious choice amigo.

The CZ 97 is the most accurate of base CZ pistols, and is more accurate than most custom 1911's. I think the Ruger would make a more durable weapon, and its American made which means it can be smithed/fixed easily, but it's no where near as fun to shoot at the range as the CZ.

Do not have any experience with Ruger, but
bought CZ-97 some time ago. It's excellent. CZ-97 is a bit big/heavy, but it's .45 with 10 rounds in a magazine, so there is some logic in here. Shoots great
and straight, trigger in DA/SA is very, very good and getting better with usage.
Accuracy is great, despite somewhat loose
bushing. Reliabilty with any ammo proved to be 100%. Everybody at the range who tried it
was very impressed.

TCW,

I have handled both and shot the Ruger before. While the Ruger is a nice pistol, my money is going on a CZ-97. I have already decided that the 97 will be my next pistol.

What made up my mind? The quality and accuracy of my CZ-75B was a large factor and the glowing reports I have read in both magazines and here on TFL of the CZ-97 have helped also.

Try to find a shop where you can compare them both side by side. One will fit your hand better than the other and that is a large factor to consider. Balance and a "natural" feel are others. For me, the CZ wins the comparison hands down but things may feel different to you.
