cz-83 vs. sig p-232

I shot the sig p-232 over the weekend and it was a great little gun. I've decided to pick up a good quality .380

The sig p-232 was a nice size, very easy to control, and didn't have any of the harshness that folks attribute to the blowback operated .380 actions. The rubber grips probably absorbed most of it.

Has anyone shot the cz-83? How does it shoot compared to the sig p-232? Do the rubber grips make that much of a difference? Especially since the cz is heavier and has a pretty wide grip? How about the controllability?

SteveC:

Fist off, let me state that I am a dyed-in-the-wool SIG enthusiast, and you would be well served by the 232. So with that said, you might be surprised to hear that I prefer the CZ. Here's why:

The SIG is BIG for a .380 pistol. And while that heft helps absorb recoil, it's capacity remains low compared to the similarly-sized CZ83, which gives you either 10rd or 13rd capacity. And as you mention, the CZ's double-stack configuration does a nice job of soaking up recoil.

The SIG has a very nice trigger. But no better than the CZ (in fact, my CZ83 has a smoother trigger than any of my fullsize SIGs).

The SIG has sights that that are superior to most pocket pistols. But so does the CZ, which has highly visible 3-dot sights.

The SIG cannot be carried cocked & locked, while the CZ can --- essentially giving you the option of carrying an SA pocket pistol.

The SIG is robustly built, but so is the CZ. It is an all-steel combat pistol. And although it gives up a bit of refinement to the SIG, the CZ will stand up to anything most users can dish out.

The SIG is accurate, but again, so is the CZ. As I mentioned in an earlier post on this forum, I used it to successfully hit the 75yd gong with 26 of 27 shots at my local range recently.

And now for the bottom line --- and that's the bottom line: The CZ will set you back significantly less money for equal performance and more features.

I won't knock the 232, because it is indeed a fine pistol. And if it fits your hands better, and you find that you shoot it better than the CZ, than it is clearly the better choice for you. But IMHO I find the CZ to be a better value.

Take care. Marko

having never shot the cz, i can't comment on how good or not so good it is...but the wife has a p232 and it is a fantastic firearm. little small for my hand, but perfect for her. it is quite concealable, and i might even consider it or a ppk for a backup carry gun.

anyway, good luck with your choice.

cz vs sig .380

Both are excellent pistols. The sig has the ppk style to it, which is appealing to me. The sig holds less rounds and has had a rep. for occasional reliability probs. Both are the same size and feel
well in your hand, even in large hands. The cz holds mucho bullets. I think out of the two, the cz is more controllable and
is a natural pointer. Its reliability is unsurpassed by any pistol.
You can shop on the net and find an 83 for around $ 250.00
with 2 mags. Military mags are just a phone call away, they are
the 13 rnd hi caps.

I had the same choice as you have now. I have fired the sig in the past and bought the cz 83. You will not be dissapointed. Shoot well
