Very limited window of opportunity to bring in hi-caps. The guns may have been made since about 1985 ( I know it's named the Model 83, but they were two years optomistic about getting into full production ) for european sales, but they weren't allowed into the US till the fall of the iron curtain about 1990. The 94 hicap ban took effect too quickly after that.
Now that is for the CZ83, NOT the 75/85.
There are many preban magazines available that will work in the CZ75/85. I said that they would work, not that they were made for them. Yes, the cold war was still going on and the 75/85 could not be imported from behind the iron curtain ( for the most part ). But with the demand for them, they were cloned in several countries from which the US would allow importation. It's the magazines made for these clones that led to a decent stock of normal capacity mags even post-ban. Thank God the clones were close enough for their mags to work in the original.
