CZ 83 in .32 ACP.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a CZ 70 or 83 in .32 ACP.

Problem is, I can't locate an 83 in .32.

Anyone know of one?

Anyone have any thoughts on the .32s from their own use?

I may just end up getting a CZ 70 and be done with it...

Mbott,

No, I didn't. I was just checking on-line gunshops, auctionarms & gunbroker, etc.

There are a LOT of .380 83s out there.

Mike, they (CZ-USA) are no longer importing cz83s in Makarov or .32acp, only the .380acp cz83s are being imported now.

They told me parts are still available, as the pistols are still in production over on the other side. The two calibers were just not selling over here.

Here's a photo of one with a non-stock grip:

The CZ-83 is a fine gun, but if you're going to get one, get a 9x18 or .380 instead of the .32.

If you've got to CARRY a heavy gun, at least get something for your effort.

(The Kel-Tec P-32, in .32 acp, is a better .32. The CZ-83 in 9x18 is one of the best guns for the money available, with only a good Makarov being a better value. The CZ-83, however, will be more pleasant to shoot.)

Never really considered it as a carry gun, Walt.

Just one of those things that looks interesting because it's different.

My regular carry gun is a Smith 042, or when I'm going semi-auto, a Kahr K9.

i have the 70 in .32
its a good little gun. shoots well, and sights arent too bad. go for it,if its what you want.

If its not going to be a carry gun, then I'd still consider .380 or 9x18, if only because you can probably get the ammo more cheaply. (.32 acp, in my experience, is generally pricey, while the 9x18 can often be found very inexpensively.)

I have a CZ-50, by the way -- an earlier version of the CZ-70, and its a surprisingly good gun. Much smaller than the CZ-83, but a totally different design, based loosely on the Walther PP. (Most of the parts on the 70/50 are interchangeable, and I've seen 50s that came with a 70 slide...)

A friend bought a Walther PPK in .32 and I got my CZ-50 at about the same time. My CZ-50 was a more accurate gun, easier to shoot, and a helluva lot less expensive.

The only problem with the CZ-50/70 series is that they tend to come with crappy magazines, so you may have to work on the mags or find replacements that work.

Hum...

Looking around a bit more, I'll probably end up getting a 70 simply because they're available and they're cheap.

Don't have much interest in one of these guns in .380.

If I get a .380, it will be a Remington 51.

Front sights on the cz50/70 pistols are not easy to see. Plan on touching up with paint.

DA trigger is very heavy, but SA is good. The loaded chamber indicator a very good feature.

Guns are accurate, and fun to shoot. I think the $79 helps give one a good feeling about the .32 CZ police pistols.

Makarov.com sells a decent cz50/70 instruction manual at their site.

Mike,
Spiros may be right. CZ USA may have stopped importing the 32 acp, but I think you should contact them directly to confirm that. My impression is that they can order them but don't on a regular basis. I ordered one through my local dealer this past spring. It took about three months, but it finally arrived.

The CZ 83, and the entire line of CZ pistols, is a very good value for the money. They are accurate, reliable, and have many good features.

Good luck getting one.

Keep in mind, too, that the CZ-50 and CZ-70 are post-war Soviet Bloc military weapons, now on the surplus market. They tend to have "tender" firing pins, so dry-firing could (not necessarily "will") be a problem.

These older CZ, including the CZ-52, are not of the same lineage and quality as the modern-day CZs -- which are exceptional weapons.

Mike, I saw one in .32acp this weekend

at a gunshow NIB. The dealer is located in Hialeah, Florida. He has healthy prices at gunshows, but he may deal. I don't have his card but will look for him at the next show over in Orlando if you like. I think he had two or three in 9x18, .380 and .32acp. He even had CZ75B SAs and you never see those. He keeps a pretty good selection of CZ pistols and longarms.
