CZ-82: Any Owners?

Hi all,
A lgs I frequent has a CZ-82 for sale. It's prob about 92%, comes with 4 mags, case, night sights, and walnut grips. They're asking $325, which I know is a bit over mark from what they were when they first came out but this does come with a lot and the initial low prices seem to have disappeared.

My question is does anyone have one, and what are your thoughts? I've done some Google and YouTube searching and most thoughts seem pretty positive about it. I don't really have any specific need for it, but it just seems something interesting worth having. Finding ammo near me might be a bit tricky, but I know a few shops that should have 9x18 Mak.

Thanks for any info,
-TR

I have one of those, and I like it very much, on the bottom of this picture.
I was at a gun show last Saturday, I was very surprised seeing the prices......
I say buy it, it worth it.
This is no longer the time when they first came out.

As a rule most people like the CZ82. They feel pretty good in the hand, have good accuracy and a nice trigger. There are several weak spots however. Be sure to function test the gun as the sear is prone to wear. The slide release spring sometimes falls out. The ambidextrous mag release is prone to early wear. These were shipped in large quantities and in a wide range of wear and use. Just be careful and inspect the gun thoroughly.

With the aftermarket grips and the extra mags the price is OK. These were typically sold with two mags and a cheap, used, flap holster with cleaning rod for about $250 or so.

I have shot the CZ82 several times
I have recommended them to many friends a few years ago

Pros

1) VERY accurate
2) Very solid and well built

Cons

1) General 9mm MAK poor availablity and a huge price increase vs 9MM
(It used to be 50% of 9mm Luger. Now its the same if not more.)
Less and less gunshops carry the 9 Mak ammo

2) Lack of many viable choices for hollow point ammo
I have seen some of the offerings tested, and for the most part, the
JHP performed poorly

3) For the size/ caliber it is a very heavy gun

Its a good pistol.

feeding it for the long run may be a huge issue, as there are no new pistols being issued (to my knowledge)

Ammo vendors may limit capacity

I fear ammo will be VERY expensive 5-10 years from now

Good luck on your choice. If you buy it..... stock up on ammo DEEPLY and reload with lead bullets

Good guns. They have a horrible finish IMHO. They show flaking. Mak ammo is not as cheap as it used to be but if you buy online from the right places in reasonable quality it is still similar to 9mm.

I own one and like it but unless you are dying to have it I would pass.

There are plenty of Makarov ammo in my area. I use Lellier&Bellot for plinking.
But I say it's good-enough for self defense too, considering how popular the .380 is. Very sometimes I use mine for that too, but using Hornady Critical Defense for that. (Not Cheep, but money is only paper with paint on it.)
When I was a little boy, I was buried with money, it was worthless, they called it hyper inflation...Hungary 1947.

I have the CZ-83, which is the same gun chambered in .380 rather than Makarov.

Pros: It has the single smoothest DA/SA trigger I've ever experienced. It points very naturally, is accurate, recoil is modest, and is very easy to disassemble & clean.

Cons: the grip is a bit thick - specifically the left grip panel pushes directly into the first joint on my thumb when shooting. I really expected more from CZ ergonomics.

I have one that I purchased when they were cheap. I wouldn't buy one in the $325 range if it's in the typical used condition....not remotely worth it, ammo availability...only valuable as a curiosity, not because it's a better shooter than anything else would be. If you're going to spend that kind of money, buy something newer and of standard caliber for a little more money...for instance, used Beretta 82's recently flooded the market in that price range; 32 ACP and a much better gun.

I would not pay that for a 82 but I got mine for $215. The one that I have was listed as in excellent shape but appears a bit rough to me. Anyway the thing that surprised me was how accurate it was using cheap Russian ammo. The 9mm mac seems to be a bit more powerful than the 380.

Walnut grips are aftermarket. Extra magazines are worth a bit.

Check the magazine release, that it works freely from both directions.

(I have one, from a relative's estate. The magazine release is kind of worn, and doesn't work well from one side. "The Interwebz" says this is a problem with that model. The magazine release is somewhat complicated (in comparison to, say, the XD's ambi magazine release).)

Walnut grips are not necessarily a plus. Aftermarket yes better maybe.

Extra mags are worth about $25 a pop. IIRC most came with 2. Mine did.

Again if you like it and want it you don't need our approval to go get yourself one. ;)

Good guns. I like mine just fine. If you live in a free state where mail order (online to you young-in's) is permissible the 9X18 ammo isn't hard to find. Hornady even makes a very good XTP defense round, but that is harder to find.
I have had one since they first hit the C&R market, and it shoots great. I have had no problem with the finish, or reliability.
If you want one just for grins, it is a great gun. If it is for CCW or HD, it's still a good gun, but in that price range there are better choices for new guns.

I have a CZ83, excellent gun. The only problem I have ever had with it is the factory grips are very thin plastic, the grip screws tend to back out and it's easy to crack the grips if you aren't careful when tightening the screws! :o

I have had mine since they were available in the C&R market. Lets just say that pistol will never leave my collection! As far as ammo. I just order it online and have a bunch. The pistol will eat anything you feed it and is very accurate. Has Polygonal rifling in the barrel which I think is a big plus. It is a heavy pistol but lets face it, its STEEL not polymer, kydex, etc (just fancy words for PLASTIC :D)

Thanks for the thoughts so far. I am not really asking for approval, I just don't know anyone that has one so I was just curious on member experience.

I think the price for what it has is okay given what's available now ($325 is OTD). I have all the true carry and home defense pistols I need. Basically I was a bit bored with my collection and my birthday is coming up so I figured a new gun (never owned a fixed barrel design before) in a new caliber might be a fun diversion.
