CZ 75BD; How do you like the decocker?

I have a very high appreciation for the reliability and performance of the CZ pistols (especially the 75.) However, I have not been a fan of the manual of arms it utilizes. I would like to carry it double-action, but in order to put it in that position, you have to thumb the hammer (something I do NOT like doing myself, much less instruct a newbie to do.) So, I can't tell you how excited I was when I saw the first 75BD (decocker model) in my local gun store. I haven't seen one since, and I'm worried they might have been discontinued or worse (recalled?) Since I can't seem to find one to inspect personally, I'd appreciate any info I can get on the subject.

So, I'm asking all you happy (or unhappy) CZ 75BD owners to chime in and tell me what you think of the pistol w/ the decocker, and perhaps postulate the pros and cons of the design.

Thanks!

Have you posted this on http://www.czforum.com/? You might have better luck finding someone who owns one over there. FWIW, I haven't heard anything abt a recall, and since there are relatively few CZ owners (compared to Glocks, for example) to start with, and even fewer with 75 BD's, so don't read too much into it if you don't get much response.

I've handled (tho not shot) a few of them, and I'd have no qualms abt buying one - I'm not much of a manual decock devotee myself. If I didn't already have 75B mil and 85 combat, the 75BD'd be the one I got next (or the 75 BD Police, which has night sights but is otherwise very similar).

Phil at http://pdmall.com/CZC/cz~1.htm usually has a few 75BD's on his tables at gun shows, and I'm sure he could give you some info if you asked, and he'd be more than happy to sell you one at a good price.

I have a CZ 75 BD and put some 600 rounds true it . I like the position of the decocker. Even with my rather small hands I can use it easily while maintaining a tight grip. It feels smooth and very natural (no need to change grip). In my modest opinion another pro is the fact that the decocker and the mag-release are well separated.

Have fun.

I just put a CZ-75D Compact on lay-away. Had a chance to feel it out at the dealer. Beautiful in every way (The gun, not the dealer). It decocks very softly too. Can't wait to fire it at the range! My finger's already itching!!

Haven't heard anything about a cancellation or a recall. In fact, this model was based on a special order made by the Czech police. I guess that means they did their homework.

I also have a CZ-75 PCR model (alloy frame compact with decocker). I like the pistol a lot, although I wish the decocker put the hammer all the way down instead of only to half cock. I'm not really sure why it is designed that way. I assume that CZ intends for the pistol to be carried at half cock (which may give a slightly lighter double-action trigger pull). Anyway, I tend to lower the hammer all the way manually anyway, so I don't get much benefit from the decocker. I would be very open to being enlightened about this (either to tell me a safer way to fully decock the pistol, or convince me that I should just leave it at half cock).

At any rate, I like the pistol and would be very surprised to see the decocker models discontinued.

Didn't I just do this?

I am in favor of the decocker. A CZ-75BD is my bedside gun, and I don't have to worry about my wife knowing how to work it, just pull the trigger.

As stated, the first DA shot is from half-cock. During IDPA, I don't even notice the difference between it and the following SA shots.

Don't get me started talking about the accuracy of this pistol.

I own 3 .45's but I sold my other 9MM after acquiring the CZ 75BD. I like cocked and locked carry for SA, but in my opinion, the decocker to half cock is just as good, and simpler when you're in a big hurry.

Regards.
