CZ 75B "FTE" problem update>>pics>>

Here's the straight poop with photos for those of you that were interested in seeing what was causing my CZ 75B "Mil" FTE problems.

I used a 1/16" steel punch to drive the extractor pin out the bottom of the slide and then I simply pulled the original extractor and spring out. Turns out there was a difference in the original extractor and the replacement piece. See pic #1, pic #2, pic #3, pic #4, and pic #5 for different angles showing the difference.

My initial plan was to only install the extractor if there was a significant difference between them but once I put the springs side by side for a photo and realized that the new spring was approximately one full coil width taller (as seen in pic #6) and apparently stronger than the old one I just couldn't see putting the original back in and risking having to pull it apart again to put in the spring if the new extractor alone didn't cure the problem. I also noticed that the original spring seemed to be collapsed to one side on one end. This is quite apparent in pic #7.

After installing the new pieces I went to the range with 100 rounds of Winchester "white box" 115gr FMJ to try it out. I'm happy to report that I have finally fired a full box of ammo without an FTE! I'll still keep an eye on it for the next few hundred rounds to make sure it doesn't bobble again but after seeing the differences in both the extractor and spring I suspect that I now have a %100 reliable CZ. :)

Glad to see you probably got the problem straightened out. There is nothing as frustrating as good gun that won't work right. Mark

I think you won't have any further problems. I have never had a failure of any type with the two Cz75Bs that I have owned over the years. I took my latest one out Saturday and put 125rds of S&B 115gr FMJ thru it. It shot great!

R6, Thanks for the pix!

Definitely helpful seeing the pictures. I am glad this fiasco is over for you. Perhaps the person that assembled your gun was very nearsighted with uncorrected vision. ;) That is one rough looking extractor. It also looks like it contributed to the funky spring cant.

Yeah, there's nothing like being able to show pictures instead of having to try and describe the shape of the extractor tip! :) I figured the pics would be appreciated by other interested CZ owners.

Good job with the camera!

Glad the problem is fixed. That old extractor did look as though it was in rough shape.

Call me dumb, but I can't picture in my mind where/how the extractor fits into your CZ? My CZ familarity is limited as only having shot Joe's CZ97 a few rounds several months ago. I am not familar with the internals of CZs.... :(

Maybe this will help. :)

It looks like the claw of your extractor was bent. Perhaps the result of an improperly heat treated part and something else?

I found the exact same spring difference in my CZ-75 when I swapped out the extractor and spring a while back. Maybe the CZ needs a little help, like the rubber snubber in ARs?

Nope, the claw is not bent or deformed in any manner. It was made exactly as it is, not even any visible wear on the claw. It is of a completely different design in the claw area compared to the new piece. Defective by design, I guess you could say. :)
