CZ 75 owners. Which bits have you pilfered from other CZs?

Some may know that I have a CZ 75 SP-01. I am just curious which bits members have taken from other models and dropping into theirs.

I don't mean Cajun Gunworks. I don't even mean CZ customs.

I mean something like a trigger from an 85 into a 75 or an SA trigger group into a DA/SA gun or vice versa, swapping safeties for decockers.

You know.... stuff like that.

Unless something has changed, there's not much stuff that you CAN do.

Internally, the guns are almost identical, except that the hammer on the decocker models are slightly different. (CZ removes one hammer hook on the decocker models to make room for the decocker mechanism.)

I may have overlooked something, but the following sums it up pretty well:

  1. You can't switch from decocker to safety and back (except in the Omega guns that were designed for that) -- without some skilled gunsmithing (that only CZ seems willing to do. It would be much, much less expensive to just sell one and buy the other, or swap.
  2. You can install the 85 Combat trigger in the standard 75B, and get an overtravel adjustment/stop. But a gunsmith can do that for you, and likely cost you less. (The standard 85B trigger and the 75B trigger are the same.)
  3. Afterthought: Some slide stops interchange, but not all: they're slightly different lengths, or in the case of the 85 Combat the fit the frame differently; you can't use the 85 Combat slide stop in anything but an 85 Combat, and the other slide stops won't work in the 85 Combat. The 75B Compact slide stop may not work in the PCR or P-01 -- as the frames are slightly different widths (but I'm not sure about THAT point.) The slide stops all function the same, and the part you press is the same.
  4. You can also install the PCR/P-01 trigger in a standard CZ-75B, and shorten the trigger pull a tiny bit, but many folks don't like that "curved" trigger.
  5. The trigger group is the same for the DA/SA guns and SA, except that there is no disconnector in the SA model. You can remove that part from the DA/SA model and it becomes SA; then you're free to install the nice 2-way adjustable SA trigger in the DA/SA guns. That trigger is adjustable for take up and over-travel. Removing the disconnector causes you to lose restrike/DA mode. (The SA trigger won't work in the any of the DA/SA guns unless you convert them to SA functionality or shorten the length of the SA trigger... and that might still not work.)
  6. The guns with AMBI-controls can use the SA safeties (which are all ambi), and a good improvement. I keep thinking I'm going to do with with my 85 Combat, but never spend the money. Doesn't help with a gun starting from DA, hammer down.
  7. Afterthought: Some sights are interchangeable, but the raised rib on the top of the slide can be an issue: the 85 Combat can't use a PCR sight, the PCR can't use an 85 Combat adjustable sight (nor can some of the other models, unless the rib is removed where the sight is installed). The PCR sights will not work on the P-01 unless metal is milled... and where those changes are made, you end up with white metal.
  8. Afterthought I suspect there are some other issues with Omega triggered 75B-based guns... I'm just not familiar with those versions... The entire fire control system is different.
That's probably why there are after-market solutions and alternatives to add new functionslity: you can't do a lot with factory part swapping.

Great insight! Thank you.

I was curious to see which changes I could make without losing "production" status in IPSC by only making changes with parts available specifically through CZ as an option.

Those ideas are certainly things I can investigate.
:)

About the only thing that could help YOU, given your comments in another discussion, is the P-01/PCR trigger, which would shorten the trigger pull slightly and, perhaps, a slightly lighter hammer spring. You can probably get the trigger from CZ in Europe without problem, and swapping out the trigger is something YOU can do, with simple instructions.

I don't know about hammer springs, and whether Wolff Springs will ship to your part of the world or whether their materials are availble there (or through another firm.)

Addition: the Extended Mag Release from the 85 Combat would help a little in competition - and it MIGHT be legal in the IPSC PRODUCTION class. (It's only a little extended, and I doubt most folks would notice...)

I have a SA trigger on my 97b, along with the extended mag release from an SP-01. I had to Dremel down the bump to make it a cylinder so it would fit.
