CZ-75 owners and lovers I have a question???

Heck you can answer even if you don't love 'em even if you absolutely loath the things. ;)

I ordered a CZ-75B 9mm in Nickel recently, the distributer screwed up and sent a blue polymer finished one in .40 instead! Well, I really wanted the nickel finish so I had the FFL guy reorder it, but he told me to take the .40 out and try it (after I passed the f&%king background check) until my 9 came in. So I did. Anyway, the point is while poping off my first .40 ever rounds I had some problems. At least 5 times when I loaded only one round in the mag and let the slide release go it failed to chamber and hung up. This was 5 different rounds mind you! This didn't happen when I had more than one loaded in the mag, nor did it fail to chamber when autoloading subsequent rounds. Anybody ever have that happen?

I noticed that the feed ramp seems really, steep. Is that just the forty or is the nine the same?

The other question was about the safety. the 75's have thumb safeties a la 1911's which are only supposed to work when cocked, BUT on this one I hit the thumb safety when locking the slide back manually and it not only went up into safe position but also locked the slide back!!! I also found ACIDENTLY that I could but the thumb safety on if when not cocked if the slide was a small bit retracted, when I pushed it forward the slide continued forward to fully locked positon and the safety was on and the gun would not fire. When the safety was wiped of it would fire normally.

I'd like to add that I got the CZ-75 because of you all on this board who lauded it so nicely and because I've always loved the way it looks and the way the grip feels and I still love those :D I also got a great deal on the Kadet conversion and excellent service from Northeastfirearms whom someone here reccomended. Now that I've seen the polymer and how nice it looks I wish I'd taken his deal It would have been really really good for a poly 9 with the kadet.

Last observation. I found when dry firing this sample that a slight but of presure on the trigger when cocked, not enough to break and fire would make it imposible to engage the safety while leaving the gun fully cocked, it would fire normally if the trigger was pulled. To engage the safety I would have to pull on the hammer a bit and the safety worked normally. What's up with that???? If I start to press the trigger but stop and the safety doesn't work???

That reminds me this CZ came with only 2 10 round mags and they are mec-gar mags and don't say cz on 'em. I was under the impression that all cz-75s still shipped with one 15 and one 10 rounder. You think the distributer is jacking me around on the mags too?

Sounds like you got a dud there. :)

I've not tried the .40 CZ but I've experienced -none- of the problems you mentioned with my CZ-75B. It has been flawless from day one.

I think the only models that come with one hi-cap mag and one 10 rounder are the 9mm version. Don't know how they do things with the .40.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you have to pay for the Cadet .22 conversion kit? I'd like to get one of those but would have to special order it as no one in this area carries it. I have no idea what they are going for.

Like Joe, I never had any trouble with mine at all ever. Mine's a 9mm CZ-75 BD in polymer.

What brand of ammo are you using? What bullet type?

No problems of any kind with my CZ-75B, when
CZ magazines are used. Non-CZ magazines may
be the reason of a problem you had with your
.40 cal. Seems like magazine follower is not shaped correctly - I had similar problem with
some aftermarket CZ-75 magazines, although
it was not the 1st round, but 4th or 5th,
don't remember...

Thanks for the replies :)

Joe- I got my kadet conversion from Jake at http://www.northeastfirearms.com/

I talked to him about it via e-mail, sent him a check and got it about 5 days later, before my cz-75 (the wrong one!) came in to my FFL guy. It cost me $189 including shipping. It's an awsome deal!! He had a deal (1 left) when I talked to him for a 9mm with 1 hi cap and 1 10 rounder plus the Kadet conversion for I think $510 including shipping. The only reason I didn't jump on it is I hadn't seen the polymer finish and I wasn't too sure I'd like it. So I ordered a nickel 9mm through the FFL guy and that has become an ordeal.... :(

I can't wait for my 9 to come in! Then I can fit the Kadet and really blast away. I hope it was just this .40 that had those problems 'cause it's going back....

Ledbetter- I was using some cheap mexican aguilla ammo. I think it was around 180 grain? I forget and I shoot it all up :D

I am just wondering how many own the CZ in .40, has anyone else exp. any of these problems with this caliber? I only ask because I was thinking of puchasing a CZ-75b and was looking at the .40.

shiroikuma,

That sounds like a good deal on the .22 conversion. I've heard bad stories about Aguila ammo, including inconsistent loading of cartridges. I've only used it in my .22 pistol. Sounds like that .40 needs to go back. Good luck with your 9.

Shoot safe,

Sounds like a pretty nice dealer to me--none of the guys around here would let me just take that gun out and shoot it, I think! Either he's a great dealer or he's REALLY sneaky, couldn't get the 9mm nickel and is hoping you'll fall in love with the .40 so he'll make a sale. Sounds like the former.
I hope everything works out. I came within a hair of getting the CZ and I still want one, but I think mine will be a 97.

I think you got a lemon.I have a CZ75B in .40 and love it.I tried to duplicate your problems and I found it impossible.Mine works flawlessly with very little felt recoil. However my wife couldn't handle it very long without limp wristing it,but she did better with the CZ than my BHP 9mm.I'm still amazed with the accurracy.Promags work great and only cost $13.95 from Ajax Shooters Supply.
Can anyone tell me how to change my handle without reregisistering?I've noticed another Marcus and don't want anyone getting confused over who's who,and since he was here first,I think its only fair to change mine. Can anyone help me with this?Thx.

Hey thanks `46. You wouldn`t want anyone thinking you were me. :D Just look up toward the top right corner of the screen and click on Profile. That`ll let you in to change your info. CZ-75B in .40 looks sweet! I`ve been thinking of getting one myself. Marcus

As far as I can tell, the .40 never came with hi-caps (which would have been less than 15 rounds, due to larger .40 cartridge), since, if I'm not mistaken, the .40 version has only been out for a brief while and is strictly post ban.

I have a cz75b with the polymer finish in 9mm caliber. It's been extremely reliable and accurate. It came with one 15 round and one 10 round magazine. I got some Promag 15 rounders and they work great as well. I believe that only the military over run pistols came with a 15 round magazine. I've seen cz85's and polished blue cz75b's with only 10 round magazines.

Hi gang,

Just to let you know. I e-mailed cz-usa on friday and they replied today. Mec-gar makes the factory supplied mags and they only send 10 rounders out on non military models as Bill G said.

P.S. I went to a local gun show today and talked to my FFL guy there. He said my Nine would be in maybe today or tommorow!!!

Well it wasn't "today or tommorow" as you can see. I did get my satin nickel CZ 75b and it's NICE! baby NICE! Wow does it look good! I took it to the range today for the first time and shot off 40 rounds of S&B 115 gr. NICE! very NICE! I was shooting close seven to ten yards and it's a shooter all right, nice small group. I then fitted the Kadet conversion and burned off another 300 rounds of .22. DAMN this is a nice gun. It looks fantastic and shoots just as good. I tried the kadet conversion vs my Browning buckmark off a rest to compare them and I think they are about the same in inherent accuracy, and that's damn good! If you have a CZ you have got to buy a kadet conversion. The gun feel exactly the same as the big caliber just less jump when it goes bang, and you can shoot 500 rounds for less than $10 bucks :D

The only difference between it and my buck mark is the trigger is typical military slack before letoff on the cz and a target type on the buckmark. I had ZERO falures to feed or function in .22 and 9mm (just some typical .22 failures to ignite) This is the best gun/combo I've every bought.

GO buy one today!! I talked a guy at the range into buying one after I let him shoot it :D

The only thing I'd change is that I'd get the decocker version as I'm not going around cocked and locked and the safety only works if it's fully cocked which I didn't realize when I bought it. but wait! then it wouldn't be nickel! never mind :D

Congratulations, shiroikuma. These are very fine guns for the price. I have the decocker (BD) version and like it for carry or nightstand. The trigger gets better with use. If you have a benchrest, test your pistol with it to see just how exceptionally accurate it is.

Regards,

Ledbetter

Shiroikuma,

Glad your pistol finally got there. I see you like yours as well as I like mine. :)

I think you've talked me into a Kadet .22 conversion kit. I sent an E-mail off to North East Firearms tonight. I've been trying to decide between a Ruger 22/45 and the conversion kit for a few weeks now. Sounds like the kit would be as accurate as the Ruger.

If you don't mind, I'd like to ask a couple of questions about the kit. When the .22 kit is installed is the barrel fixed or does it move under recoil? How many magazines came with your kit? Are the sights fixed or adjustable?

Thanks for any help and congratulations again.

Joe/Ga

Joe,

The barrel doesn't move nor does most of the slide. It has a smaller slide inside the replacement slide that cycles back and forth. The sights are nice click adjustable ones and it only comes with one mag, but extra ones are about $29 I believe. Anything else? Go buy one, you won't be sorry. :D

Shiro must've been that nut I today at the Rabbit Creek firing range doing his Matrix Moves with two CZ's.

It was cool at first, but I think the back-flips were a bit too much.

:)
