CZ 75 hammer & grips

I recently bought a CZ 75 (9mm), and I like it very much.

However there are 2 things I would like to change:

- I would like a flat hammer to replace the rounded one. Anybody knows if it's available? (Would the hammer of the Phoenix pistol fit ?)

- I'm also going to replace the grips, probably with Hogue rubber or wood grips. How do they compare to the original plastic grips in size ?

All suggestions are most welcome.

I have no experience with the Hogue wooden or rubber grips personally but have seen them on CZ's and they seemed nice. Others prefer them to the plastic/rubber checkered grips that come on the commercial 75B.

Being a cheap bas**** :p I've grown used to the plastic checkered grips that came on my 75B chambered in .40 and acquired a set ($8 from CZ-USA) to replace the "anatomical" (thumbrest) grips that came on my MilSurp 9mm.

If you have the MilSurp 75B that comes with those god awful thumbrest grips I don't blame you for wanting to change them out :p They are usually the first thing most owners replace.

As far as the availability of a spur hammer for the CZ, I don't know of any manufacturer who offers one for a 75B. The earlier models (Non-B) came standard with that type hammer so you could give Mike a call at CZ-USA (1-800-955-4486) and ask him if they are available and if they would work..

Hope this helps,

Rick

I bought my CZ75 with the Hogue grips installed. (~$20) I tried the plastic ones in the store and didn't care for them. They are slightly thicker, but have finger grooves. I have similar Hogue grips on two other handguns, one revolver and one pistol and a set of their 'handalls(?) on another pistol. They work well for me.

Can't comment on the hammer as the stock one seems fine to me.

I use the Houge wrap arounds on mine and I love them. As for the hammer, one of the CZ catalogs I had about a year ago did list a spured hammer as an option. I dont see it on their web site, but I would give them an call and ask. They might have a few about.

The earlier CZ-75's (not 'B'), that came with the spur style hammer, have a smaller diameter hammer axle pin than the 'B' version, so it wouldn't be a drop in deal. I know this by experience. IIRC, the hammer's main and safety notches are a bit different.

I couldn't tell you if a Phoenix (Sphinx?) is the same, but the EAA Witness' hammer is a bit different as well (larger disconnector and hammer strut holes). This, too, I know by experience.

Couldn't tell you about grips, I like my stock checkered versions.

Bandit - ditto on those f-ing thumb rest grips. They simply suck - the plain (commercial) plastic one's make it a much better pistol for a few bucks.

Destructo6 - ahhh, those nice old spur hammers... They look SO much nicer, and work just fine. I find the trigger on the pre-"B" model CZ-75 to be nicer as well.
