CZ 75 Finish Durability - Which is best?

A friend and I are planning to order a CZ 75 Compact 9mms. We both bought high-capacity magazines for these just before they were banned here in California. I like the design very much, but I wish they were available in stainless, or at least a "hard chrome" or other super-durable finish. But the options we have are: blue, satin nickle, and black polymer.

I've heard highly conflicting reports about the durability of the polymer finish (from "started chipping off right away" to "lasted through years of heavy use with no problem"). I tend to favor the nickle because I'm guessing that it will be more durable, but I also heard one report of it starting to peel off soon after purchase. I like the appearance of either about equally, so I'm basing my decision on durability.

Blue would be my last choice (I hate feeling that I need to wipe my gun off every time it's handled), but I'd prefer a well-blued gun to any coating that chips or peels off easily. Anyone have experience with these finishes on CZ pistols? Also, it would be helpful to know how old the gun is (I suspect that the differences I've heard may correlate to newer vs. older guns - maybe they changed the process or coating). Thanks.

Doug

I have a new CZ-75B, which I've been shooting in IDPA. I love the gun, but am not crazy about the polymer finish. I scratches a little easier than I would like, and I chipped a spot using brass punch to adjust the rear sight.

I think if I had a choice, I'd do nickle -- if its not a bright finish.

Its a GREAT gun, though...

I've had one of these in the satin nickel finish for a couple of years with no problems. A friend also has the same finish and again, no problems. This is in my opinion a very attractive finsh and much more durable than the polymer finish. If you should scratch either one of them you have a problem but the nickel is much more durable.

When you say "blued" do you mean the same as the glossy blue CZ shows on their website ? Is there a difference ? I'm also curious as to how that finish holds up against the nickel. I think the glossy blue finish is attractive and would prefer it.

The "glossy blue" shown on the website is, I think, the polymer finish. The polymer has a different luster than a blued gun (i.e, a subtly softer, more-rounded look.)

Thanks for responding Walt. Since CZ doesn't supply any information about finishes on their website, I copied and pasted the price sheet from J&G sales. It didn't come out to well, but you can clearly see they offer these finishes: Military (blued?), glossy blue, black polymer, and satin nickel. Very confusing.

I have the CZ75B in the glossy blue and that finish is different than the poly. I haven't had the gun that long but the finish is very pretty and appears to be well done.I did notice the finish came off the top of the hammer very quickly where the slide rubs it.

You should be able to find a CZ-75b in the $300 range. I got mine at a gun show for $275 -- but the dealer, as I was signing the papers acknowledged that he had mispriced the gun, and that I was getting it for $10 over his price.

I've seen them advertised on the net for anywhere from $300 - $350. One dealer with whom friends of mine have done business and regard highly, is selling them for $339.

See http:\\www.empirearms.com

Click on the handguns section, and go to the bottom. He also has CZ hicaps for $40.00.
