Try a search using CZ75 and CZ 75, you'll get plenty of threads on the CZ75 line of pistols.

I like the compact quite a bit, but it's heavy, very heavy. Preban mags can be had from CDNN for something like $70. If yoou order from them make sure to specify that you want the CZ75 mags with the curled base plate. a buddy of mine ordered from them and they sent him the wrong mags. They made it right but he was still out the return shipping.

I found the CZ75 Compact to be a real tack driver. It chewed through whatever it was fed. It really liked home cooking, so if you can get some cheap Sellier & Belliot, so much the better. There are several versions out now. The original all steel, cocked and locked, manually drop the hammer, and two never ones--a DAO alloy frame and the special Czech police, alloy frame with a hammer drop, you can't carry the last two cocked and locked. You can check out www.cz-usa.com for info and www.jgsales.com for prices.

The one that I didn't like was the annoying new slide lock. For some erason I accidentally work the slide stop 50% of the time, leaving a slide locked back on loaded mags. I never had this problem with the older style safety. Try as I might I couldn't adjust to this.

Tecolote;
thanks for the info. went to their site,
heavy is the word, works out to about 34oz.
however it does seem to be a good gun.I want
something to carry but dont like the double
action only models,kel-tec,tarus.

I've got a CZ75 in .40. Nice piece, but it needs a trigger job. Does anyone know of smith in Southern Cal that works on these? I'd rather do it locally tahn have to send it out and wait for it. If you know anyone, let me know off-list.

bullet44,

The new alloy models are a lot lighter. If you don't mind spending more you should consider a SIG Sauer P239, check out www.idsi.net/~cavan/IIIC2q2.html and www.gunnery.net/sig/ The P239 is slim, light, DA/SA with excellent trigger pulls and accurate to a fault. If you want something more economical and loads of fun, give the Makarov a hard look. Plenty of info over at www.makarov.com I can't say enough good things about the Bulgarian military/police Makarov.

Gabe,

You don't necessarily have to find a CZ smith. Anyone who has worked on Witness pistols would be very familiar with the CZ mechanism, it's virtually identical. I've heard very good things about Keith Whaley (sorry, don't have contact info.) and of course there's always King's Gun Works, although they have a pretty long waiting period.
