CZ 75/85 SA only?

Are there versions of the CZ 75 or 85
that are SA only?

Don't know about the CZ85 but the CZ75B is available SA only. Of course any competent smith familair with the mechanism can easily convert the pistol to SA only mode. Check out www.cz-usa.com.

So many pistols, so little money.

Since the CZ-75B can be carried "cocked and locked" there is absolutely NO REASON to have one converted to a SA-only mode. You can make it single-action only by the way you use it.

(Why remove the option of DA first shot?)

I agree with Walt. One of the best features of the CZ 75, 85, and 97 is that they can be carried in the single action mode or the double action mode at the user's option.

I wasn't thinking of carrying the pistol
anywhere. I wondered if a SA only pistol
might have a shorter more consistent trigger
pull. I don't know how I created the
impression that I wanted to carry the weapon,
or carry it cocked and locked. I enjoy
shooting, and have wondered if an SA 9mm
semi-auto other than the Browning Hi-Power.
Several of the people whose books/articles
I've read claim that SA only pistols
generally have a more consistent trigger
pull than SA/DA pistols. Is this true

I have fired exactly two semi-autos, a
Ruger and a P99. Both of them, fired in SA
mode, had a pretty long trigger pull that
was mostly "empty" until the last little bit
that actually fired the gun. I was hoping
that a CZ 75 SA only would have a shorter
trigger pull than the DA/SA version.

Thanks.

Ah, I just reread your post. Yes, indeed, the pistols you've tried are not geared toward target-style SA shooting. The Walther P99 is a pistol that only an action shooter could love (and I do). It will absolutely drive a target shooter nuts. The CZ's I mentioned may be more to your liking, but I've never tried them.

Thanks, Gorthaur.

Are there other SA semi-autos out there
(beside the Hi-Power and the CZ 75 Champion)?

Your best choice for a SA Auto, would be the SIG P-210. A wonderful gun in 9mm. Pricey, though. ($800-$1000 used, $1300-$2000 new.)

A next-best bet would be a S&W Model 52 (in .38 special only), which is a wonderful SA. These run from $500-$800 depending on condition.

I have one of each, and they're both joys to shoot. And exceptionally accurate. The Model 52 has the best trigger I've every used.

Then you could look at several revolvers. I had (sold recently) a S&W Model 25-2 with 6 1/2 inch barrel (.45 acp) Very accurate. I also have a 6" Python that is comparably accurate.

Then there are a 1911's in various calibers. Most Bullseye shooters use 1911s for the higher calibers. They also use a variety of guns for the smaller calibers. Bullseye guns are by far the most accurate.

A 1911 in 38 super or 9mm might be interesting. I find my CZ-75, however, to be very accurate, and the trigger pull can be lightened (in SA mode) to match any of the guns mentioned, above. I keep the trigger a little (4-5 lbs) on the heavy side for IDPA competition.

CZ-USA has informed me that the single action only CZ 75 SA moodel will be available in 4 to 6 weeks. Regards, Dennis

MUNIR,

I was glad to hear in the last post about the SA only CZ75. I talked with their gunsmith a couple days ago about non firing pin block models which is what I think you really want if you are interested in a "good" trigger. He said my choices were:

1. Find an old stock CZ 75 made before the "B" model.

2. Remove the block from a current model "B".

Perhaps the up coming SA Only will be the ticket for you.

Of course Springfield makes 1911 model 70 clones which are SA only and have great triggers. I do not know what they have in 9mm other than the P9 and i could not personally give a testimonial to that model.

munir: The Hk P7 series are single action semiautos, and they can also be used in double action, but it is not the preferred method. Sling Shot

I have had my CZ-85 converted to SA only. Sure you can just use the SA capability while retaining the DA feature, but if you are only going to shoot SA you can get a better pull by doing the conversion. The problem is in the internal geometry. I had my DA slicked up and it felt great, but the SA pull will always creep in 2 or 3 steps. CZ offers a SA only trigger conversion as a part and mine was done with a trigger from Josef Dlask. It now has a clean, crisp, light, SA pull. Again, I don't need a DA auto, SA is fine for me.
