I dearly love my CZ rifles. For those who are familiar with them, and with Sako, Cooper, Mannlicher Schoenaur, and other high end type rifles, would you group them in with Remington and Savage, or more properly with the Sako and Cooper rifles?

They are sort of in the middle there, price-wise, but having owned examples of Remington, Winchester, Savage, CZ, Sako, Mannlicher Schoenaur and others... I have concluded that the CZ550 is a low priced, high end, bolt actioned rifle, as opposed to a high priced, "budget" rifle.

What do you think and why?

Thank you for asking. I just picked up a CZ 550, full stock, yesterday, chambered for .30-'06 springfield. I like the little touches such as a machined steel follower and a polished feed ramp.

CZ's are the last of the affordable, wood and steel, commercial mausers. Everyone should get one while they still can.

I dearly love my CZ rifles.

And, I love mine! But, I don't place them in the same category as my Cooper. Given the choice you proposed, I would place them with the Remington and Savage. Perhaps a third category could be added.... CZ in the middle between Remington/Savage and Cooper/Sako?

Are Cooper and Sako comparable? I have seen Cooper's factory and looked at several of their rifles. I have always thought of them as a production custom.

Savage and Remington probably are in a similar class and Sako is a similar product, but nicer in all ways except maybe Savage's accuracy.

CZ IMO, seems like a nice rifle in the same league as a Sako, but I'm not sure how either performs on paper. I would guess similar to a Remington.

I have a 70s vintage Remington 700 30-06 and the bolt is smooth as silk. I have a Custom 308 built on a new 700 action and the bolt is not as smooth. I have a new 700 Tactical SPS ACC SD and the action feels the same as the one on the custom. Not smooth. My CZ 527 .223 bolt is every bit as smooth as the old 700. I also have a newer Savage .223. The CZ 527 is more accurate and the bolt is waaayyy smoother. I would like a CZ 550 .308 laminated stock however they are hard to come by these days. I'm sure I get one sooner or later.

The CZs are more accurate and higher quality than both the new Remington and Savage. At least in my limited experience. And I love the single set trigger. I have Jewell triggers in all three 700s and the CZ single set gives them a run for their money. :)

I can't choose either option. The 550 is not not a cheap, budget rifle, nor is it a deluxe gun with fancy features. It is a quality made rifle without any frills. It is top drawer in function, but very plain looking.

The full stock version adds a dash of style.

CZ550. Worth much more than it's cost.

I have a CZ550 American 9.3x62. I love this rifle & caliber. It may not cycle as smoothly as my Winchester model 70, however I love the fact that it is all steel & Walnut. No plastic or polymer anywhere on this rifle. I took a magnet to every part of the barrelled action. This rifle is a joy to shoulder & snap shoot. It is plenty accurate for a hunting rifle & the 9.3x62 is simply awesome.
I have a Zeiss HT 2.5-10 x50 in Warne lever mounts on my CZ550.
This scope is outstanding.
I would hunt the world with this rifle & scope.
My favorite handload drives the superb 250gr North Fork SS at 2700 fps.
It is the perfect rifle & calibre for Sambar Deer down here in the Land of Oz.

I compared the CZ to a Sako. The Sako 85 is a really nice rifle, but IMO, the fit, finish, and quality of the CZ is right there with the Sako. So I voted option 2.

Which brings to my mind the question of how can CZ manufacture and present these rifles at a price point fully $1,000 less than the Sako?

.

I agree with SaxonPig - none of the poll choices apply.

The CZ-550 is a modern & improved classic/traditional Mauser 98 Sporting Rifle - nothing more, nothing less.

If the shoe fits, wear it - but I wouldn't compare it to anything costlier/cheaper or plainer/fancier, of of a different design.

It is what it is.

I voted option 2, but I would compare the CZ closer to a Tikka than a Sako. If Howa would get some nicer walnut stocks on their rifles they could be in the same category. Also if Remington still made rifles like they did before the Cerberus buyout, they would comparable to a CZ.
