CZ 550 American in .308. Really?

My local gun shop has, on its shelf, two quite handsome looking CZ 550s. One is clearly recognised as a 550 Varmint, with its meaty match barrel.

The other's tag reads "550 American .308". It has a barrel pre-threaded for a silencer, and a barrel length of 50cm (20in). However, when I look online to learn a little more, the CZ website describes the American as a 60cm (23in) rifle and makes no mention of any adaptor threads on the barrel.

Is this really an "American", or does it sound like something else entirely?

Looks cool, though!!

You live in Europe right. Sometimes companies make vastly different products to sell in different parts of the world and don't always list them on their websites.

Is it used?

Nope: new.

Yes, I do. I guess that would explain it, though. Strange not to actively advertise what you make, though!

Probably a European model. Attitudes about silencers vary greatly. In the US it's seen as an assassin's tool and strictly regulated. In Europe, especially the UK, it's called a "moderator" and is viewed as a courtesy to one's neighbors.

I just ordered a CZ550 American from my small town South Dakota hardware store. I told him I wanted it with the wood stock and in 308. He said that his supplier had one left. It showed up yesterday and I was excited to see it has a 20 inch threaded barrel. So apparently a few made it to the states. Looks like this was produced in 2009 but it is new in the box.
