CZ 527...fraternal twins!

Enjoyed my 2004 527 x39 so much, I got it's 5.56 twin.

Very excited to try it out. This is the new 1:9" model so I'm not limited to 55gr or less. There are a few interesting differences...typical of CZ to tweak things over the years.

CZ 527's are neat guns. Had a 22 hornet and now have a 222 Rem. in the American configuration. The clip is kinda funky, but since all of the shooting is done one shot at a time, the magazine follower by Calhoun makes the guns look more sleek. Enjoy!!

Dunno about your American, but did you know they can be single loaded without a magazine even though it's a Mauser action? You may have to polish the extractor claw surface.

I have really been interested in the 527 in 7.62 x 39. The only question I have is with the barrel being chf but not chrome lined, how will it's life hold up against bi metal jacket ammo?

Nice rifles...

I have an older Hornet & an older 223... just bought a new 7.62 X 39... should be arriving at the local Cabelas from my purchase on Gun Broker today or tomorrow... can't wait to fit it in the family...

BTW... I'm looking a Vortex Diamondback 4-12X scope for my new 7.62 X 39 :)

Nice set of twins.

I really like my 527 in .223 Rem.

I bet everyone already knows, but I verified this by contacting CZ, the .223 Rem is actually a 5.56 chamber, so you can shoot 5.56 ammo no problem. I have done it and it is fine, no pressure signs as it should be.

Enjoy.

Magnum Wheel Man,

You are correct, chrome lining was meant for anti corrosion. It also gives a hardness to the barrel that extends the life but degrades accuracy, thus why some want it in their ar's and others dont. I don't even know any bolt action rifles that use Chrome lining because they usually aren't meant to have thousands upon thousands of rounds through them, are susceptible to corrosion or harsh environments, and degraded accuracy is unwanted. I wasn't neccessarily saying the rifle should be chrome lined, only that cz recommends steel cased ammunition and that all steel cased ammunition that is imported that I know of has a bi metal jacket.

From my limited online research, bi metal jackets tend to have only a brushed copper jacket and steel underneath. From some limited studies, this has shown to wear the barrel much faster than copper fmj's. Since this barrel doesn't have an extremely durable barrel, I was just wondering if anyone knew the life expectancy before the barrel is shot out. This is also a highly controversial topic apparently.

I still really want one, but was just curious if it could last multiple thousand rounds, because I would plan on doing so with cheaper ammo.

I'm going to try PRVI brass cased ammo 1st & reload from that...

I have 100 of these hoping they'll shoot Ok, & to build loads from... already have the dies... I do have 2 kinds of steel cased ammo for my semi autos ( which I don't feel are worth reloading for ) but I could try those & see how accuracy is, if there is a problem with PRVI brass...

BTW... I've been seeing "non magnetic" bullets in some of the 7.62 X 54 R ammo... not really "looked for" more ammo lately in 7.62 X 39... so perhaps there is some out there ???

There is non magnetic 7.62 x 39 out there, from what I have seen, it is brass cased however and more expensive. Even with the studies, with the price of surplus 7.62 x 39, you would save more money with the additional barrel cost every say, 5000 rounds. I was more curious than concerned.

Magnum Wheel Man, please keep us updated on the brass fed and reloading side. I am very interested to hear the results.

Edit: Sorry chris in va, I didn't mean to derail your thread. She is a beautiful gun and I am very jealous you have both.

Loves me some 527s.

I've had rimfire CZs (452s / 453s), and full sized centerfires (550s), and to me, the 527s are the best value of the bunch, followed closely by the 550s. Great rifles. NO PLASTIC (can't say that for the 452 / 455 - magazines, mag release). And I even like 527s even though I generally hate detachable mags on turnbolts - but the 527 catch is SOLID - not gonna come loose from an accidental push, unlike many designs (including the 452 / 455).

I have more 527s than any other brand (& model) of rifle - two in .223 rem (FS, EEE), and one in .17 Hornet (Varmint).

The 527 Ebony Exclusive Edition is a gorgeous rifle- possibly the prettiest production rifle ever made.

A batch was brought into the USA, but they may have dried up now. If you can get one, to me, it's about a $2,000 rifle for $900.

Chris in VA - very nice.

I guess I didn't mean durability. I am just honestly curious of the effects of bi metal bullets in this barrel. I want one and I probably will buy one but I wanted to know the barrels life expectancy with surplus ammo. I have read that these rifles are quite accurate and I'm wondering when that starts to degrade. I wouldn't expect this rifle to be competitive by any means, but when will it exceed 3-4 moa?

My 527 in 7.62x39 loves brass cased ammo. It's my brush gun so at the range I did rapid fire groups. All 5 shots in 15-20sec... I'm using a Leupold VXR 1.25-4x scope with German #4 reticle. The reticle is thick and completely covers the aiming point at 100 yards. I am pleased with the accuracy I've gotten at 100 yards. I know I could get 1moa and better with slow fire groups, but this is not a bench rest rifle...

S&B 123gr SP brass cased.

Hornady 123gr ZMax brass cased

I had a chance to shoot the 5.56 today. I'm used to the rainbow trajectory of my x39, so it is still a little surprising hat I had zero holdover at 300 yards using the iron sights. At this point I don't plan on scoping it, just too much fun as-is.

:D

Precision shooter, looks good; what app is that?

C in Va, outstanding.

P.S. I said no plastic on the 527 - well some now have plastic end caps on the FS models () - but for $35, you can get an aluminum one from CZ-USA and replace the plastic one.
