CZ 452 Trainer Quality??

Hi everyone,

I was looking to purchase a good quality 22lr rifle. I was at the range yesterday, and a friend of mine brought his CZ 452 Scout (16" barrel). This rifle was an absolute dream to shoot, and basically convinced me to purchase a CZ 452.

Now, I checked the web, and there seems to be a bunch of varients of the 452. The one that best falls into my price range is the CZ 452 Trainer. It seems to be the scout, with a longer barrel (22").

However, I have seen the military trainer rifles at the gun shows, and most of them look to be the cheap entry level 22lr rifles.

My question: Is the 452 Trainer of less quality than the other 452 varients. Ultimately, this gun will be used for 50 yard benchrest type shooting.

Any thoughts??

I have a CZ 453 Ultra Lux. It is excellent quality. Beautiful stock, great sights, super accurate. Ships with a shot target to show the grouping at 50 yards. Can't go wrong with it.

The CZ 452 trainer has the same action as the other 452 models -- the only difference is that the stock is birch, or beech, or some such, and not the rather nice walnut they use for the more expensive versions.

Get one. You won't be sorry. The only weak point in the design is the trigger, which can be a little gritty and creepy out of the box -- but that's an easy fix, either by a smith or with an aftermarket parts kit -- they're readily available.

I have the early version of the Trainer - the CZ 452 Special and also a 452 American. Different barrel lengths and stocks. The American with walnut and a much nicer bluing.
The Special was only $189 back in 2002. The American was $339 in 2008.

The way the action is attached to the stock is different as the Special/Trainer has one action screw and one barrel screw. Where as the American has two action screws .

I've shot the Special more and it is one of the most accurate rimfire rifles I have owned. Both come with a plastic butt plate that is really the one cheap feature of these rifles. The triggers are pretty creepy but they are one of the easiest to get a good trigger pull. Once I get the trigger worked on I'll shoot the American much more.

Here's how the CZ 453 works with Eley Orange box ammo and a T36 Weaver scope......

What happened on shot 18? Sneeze?? LOL!!! Thats great shooting!! Thanks for all your help.

From what I gather, the trainer is only different in cosmetics. i dont think that is a good enough reason for me not to buy it.

Any other thoughts??

Now that's just plain mean making fun of a guys bad shot!
Besides that, you forgot to mention shot 21, looks like I went brain dead on that one too. I think that was gas pains....You know I'm at that age now.......

Some of this is luck, I have no idea why the bad shots were bad. I think I was lucky enough to shot when the wind was darn near gone.

The set trigger on the 452 vs, the 452 really makes the rifle. I love a short light trigger!!!

The 452 Special/Trainer is a step above the Scout. The iron sights that come standard on Special/Trainer are top notch. As stated, the action is the same as the other 452 22's. Between the Lux (Walnut stock) and the Trainer/Special (beech stock), the only difference is the wood of the stock.

I have two 452's and one 455 with at least two more coming at some point in the future...the Special/Trainer being one of them. Get one and I doubt you'll be disappointed. The quality of these rifles is very nice for the price. If you get one and think the trigger is an issue, you can buy the YoDave trigger kit off ebay for $17 and fix it up pretty easily. The kit actually comes with enough parts to adjust triggers in up to four rifles.

The open sighted 452s (mostly Trainers aka Specials) dominate the open sight class of CMP Sporter as reflected in these results from the 2010 National Sporter Match at Camp Perry:

I shot my 452 FS (full stock) to 10th place in 2009 but this year (next month on July 24th) I plan to use my CZ 452 Special (same as Trainer) in the open sight class:

I won this rifle in a local match last year and took it to the range to try it out on Halloween (thus the faces). These are open sight groups at 50 yards fired on its first outing.

The CZ 452 Special Military Trainer is a wonderful rifle. Very, very accurate. Sights are wonderful and the action is first class. The trigger is terrific, once adjusted.

I had a trainer (sold it because it was right handed).

More accurate than me and a could run that bolt like no ones business, so smooth.

Accuracy and consistency of my cheap trainer leaves the Browning A bolt in the dust... A bolt is fairly accurate but the CZ will put those bullets close together with more regularlity.
