Cz-40

I have seen this pistol advertised for around $300 and know that G&A did a nice write up on it claiming it to be the "most accurate CZ pistol" in the CZ lineup. Has anyone handled/shot one of these? Are they as nice as they look? Do they shoot well? I just won some cash from my fantasy football league and am looking to execise my 2nd amendment rights. Would any of you out there recommend me doing so with on of these pistols?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hell yes....:D
the 40 was designed by CZ for Colt a while back. Its basically
a 1911 style lower with a 75/85 topend. Its an awesome gun.
10+1 capacity, 3 dot sights, d/a-s/a action, carry cocked and locked or hammer down due to firing pin block safety. Nice trigger pull and accurate as hell. Its a cool looking gun also.
It "feels" good in your hand..especially to 1911 guys................
Grips and holsters are starting to be available.

Shoot well

I have one too. Its a good enough gun, and certainly good value for the money. But I much prefer the CZ-75B in .40, and I'd spend a little extra and get that. I wish I had.

It was said that this was a gun developed jointly by Colt and CZ, but if you compare parts diagrams (Cz-75B and CZ-40B) you'll see that its PURE CZ-75; even the slides interchange (but won't function properly). The .22 adapter kit for the CZ-75 will work on the CZ-40 frame, but only for one shot at a time. (The mag doesn't feed properly.)

The only Colt-like thing about the gun is the grip angle. Nothing else. (ITs not single stack, it doesn't have a grip safety, and guide rod design is certainly CZ, not Colt. The slide rides within the frame, not outside, etc., etc.)

(The Colt version was intended for police sales, but they apparently chickened out. They are said to have had a very nice, smooth DAO trigger. The CZ version is DA/SA, and you can carry cocked and locked.)

I find the cz40 to be the most accurate 40cal
I have fired, it was built for the 40cal and
as such handles the recoil well.
Great gun,very good price.!!!

I could have had a new one of those for $259 at a gun show, but I passed because the dealer was somewhat of an a-h (wouldn't let me work the action, or examine it in any detail, so I passed for lack of 'tactile information', and being put off by the dealer.

I wish I would have bought it, despite the dealer attitude.

I just haven't heard anything bad about CZ firearms. They just came out with a laminated varmint rifle in .223 Rem. I'm salivating over that one now...

CZ makes a GREAT product. They are a steal, pure and simple. I like the CZ-75B myself, but I handled the CZ40B and it is really good, too. My 75B 9mm is really accurate and 100% reliable so far. :D

If I was told to lock and load in 15 minutes, I would take my CZ75B and my Beretta AL 390 in Advantage with 24" barrel-----------------Nuff Said.

Well now, I am faced with a bit of a dilemma. I have decided that my money will go towards a CZ but I am not sure if I should get the CZ-75 in .40 or the CZ-40 (it will be a .40 as I already reload for this cartridge). I noticed that the CZ-75 typically goes for around $75 - $100 more than the CZ-40. Is it $75-$100 better?

cheers

euclid,

I have both. For me, the CZ 75B in .40 is more accurate and handles the recoil better than the CZ 40B. Don't read that as meaning the CZ 40B isn't accurate. Even the test targets that came with both has the CZ 75B being more accurate. Plus, it just fits better in my hand.

I bought a CZ40 as my first CZ, and love it. I've since added a CZ75B in 9mm, which I also really like.

I am in favor of going with the model designed for the caliber, which is the CZ40 for the .40 S&W, and the 9mm in the CZ75.

Only my opinion.

I'll pick a nit with you...

Just because a gun was ORIGINALLY chambered in 9mm doesn't mean that subsequent guns of the same basic design haven't been redesigned for a larger caliber.

The SIG P-239 in 9mm, for example, is a different gun than the P-239 in .40 or .357 sign. Most of the parts don't interchange. That's also true of the CZs that shoot .40 or .45... Although the originals were 9mm.

Would you refuse to buy a Beretta 96, simply because the 92 was first made in 9mm? How about the SIGs now available in .40 or .357 SIG? I think they all started as 9mm guns; but have been redesigned to handle the larger calibers.

The CZ-75 SA ST may be the best .40 available, and a real contender in the IPSC world. Shame it costs so damned much. It may be a BETTER .40 than the CZ-75 is a nine...

Bob C.,

In my opinion, the CZ 75B in .40 caliber is not the same gun as the 75B in 9mm. Off the top, there are three design differences that I am aware of (not counting the ambi-safety found of the .40).

1) full length recoil spring guide and heavier spring
2) heavier slide
3) other changes to the receiver. The receiver changes prevent the 9mm slide from mating to the .40 receiver (at least the last time I tried. I had no desire to "force the issue".)
