CZ 22 rifle purchase

I'm new to the rifle forum (usually hang out at the black powder...) and have been reading posts about the CZ 22 rifle. I'm wanting a 22 rifle that I think would be better than a plinker IMO. I have a CZ 75B 9m handgun and love it. I'm encouraged by what I read about the 452 and 455.

My local gun shop has a 452 with a 16 inch thread barrel but I didn't get the model name.
Also has a 452 American and a 455 American in stock. I think they also have a Ultra model but I don't know if it was the 452 or 455.

I know the 452 has been replaced by the 455 but I'm ok with either one and this shop has some 452s still in stock.

I talked with them on the phone and plan on going to look on Saturday.

I also would like to put a scope on it and would like some recommendations for rings and scopes. I don't want to spend more than say $100 - $125 for scope and rings. Wouldn't want to shoot more than 100 yds and my eyes are getting picky at my 56+ years :-)

Thanks for any advice...

I believe the UltraLux is only available in the 452 model.

If it were me, and I knew I was going to scope it, I would get the 452 or 455 American - nice handy length, great accuracy, and no irons. If you want irons for backup the regular Lux model is scopable as well.

I have a 452 UltraLux and I love how quiet it is compared to shorter barrels. If that's important to you, it's worth considering.

I haven't heard much about the difference between the 452 and 455... I'll be watching this thread to see if anybody more knowledgeable jumps in and shares that information!

FWIW... my next 22 rifle will be a 452/455 American. Scope will come off the UltraLux and go onto the new gun, and a peep sight will go on in place of the scope.

I do not know much about the 455.
I have been very happy with my 452 Trainer, 453 Varmint, and 452 American.
When I bought mine, the 16" American was not available, yet, otherwise, it would have been my third CZ.

Scope powers from 1 to 12 would be good for 50 yards and up to 16x for 100 yards. Must get 1 with Adjustable objective with high mag scope (to me, anything more than a 2-8x. Do not go too cheap on scope. a good clear quality scope will make using easier.

Save money on a trigger job. Maybe an adjustable sear, etc

BKL rings are very good for American models. it centers the scipt well

Rimfire Central has the dope on the CZ-452 vs CZ-455

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344852 is a sticky that talks about the 452/455 differences.

I have the 455 American, and I've been amazed at what it can do. I am absolutely the limiting factor in the equation. Very happy with it.

I should say that I have nothing to compare it to but my Marlin 795 which has iron sights at the moment, and my groups are massive when I aim at minute of blur. I'll scope it up again and see how it compares one of these days.

I want a CZ 455 so bad! :D

Everyone has one but me... :(

As for a scope, I have no idea why you would want to spend $100 for a .22 scope... Why not get that Tasco 3-9x32? I mean it's cheap, but supposedly pretty good. Only about $40 in stores.

Good luck.

Well...I said $100 to 125 for scope and rings and I might end up with a Tasco...but from what I've read last night, a good set of rings is as important as the scope. So even if I go cheap on the scope, I will get some pretty good rings. Scopes may come and go but a good set of rings..you know what I mean.

A lot of good replies and I thank you all. I stayed up until 2 a.m. reading on the rim fire forum...if it wasn't for Thursday night/Friday then weekend, I would not have done that. Thanks for the link and info on the comparison of the 452 and 455.

I like CZ and think I'd be happy with either one but I'm thinking about the 452 for now. The 455 would be more versitile with the change-able barrels but it is the first year of the model and for me the 452 wins out for now by shear numbers of favorable replies. And the 455 will probably be in the same position soon. Annnd...I can always get a new 455 in the future, might not be able to get a new 452 later on.

I'm going to try and look at these between cups of coffee at lunch time today.

Thanks...

I've had a CZ452 Ultralux topped with a Leupold 2-7x33 scope, for a few years now. Very accurate combination that I couldn't be happier with. If I was to go "cheap" on a scope, I would stick with a fixed 4x & avoid the cheap variables.
Don't know how the 16 inch CZ's shoot, but on a calm day with CCI Minimags & the CZ Ultralux set in a Caldwell lead sled, I can manage multiple 5 shot groups at 100 yards hovering around 1 inch.

Well I did it...I took a long lunch today and looked at the 452s at the gun shop. They had an 452 American with threaded 16" barrel, and they had a 452 Special. The special looked very similar to the UltraLux except the barrel was just about 2" shorter.
Does anyone have this model? If so, have you been able to mount a scope without removing the iron sights?

The gun shop threw in an extra 5 shot clip and I purchased another 10 round clip. I hope this baby shoots as good as it looks.
:D

Here's mine - 452 Special w/ Simmons 22Mag 3-9x32, using Millett Angleloc high rings. As you can see, I needed to either get higher or behind the rear sights, that's why I went with the 32mm objective. And make sure you leave enough room for the scope caps.
Personally tho, if you're going to scope it, I'd go with the American. The HogsBack style stock makes it difficult to get a good cheek weld. I've since removed the scope to teach my grandkids to use the iron sights and for squirrels and sech.
