Cynergy field or sporting?

Thank you to all who have posted in this forum! I have been hanging out reading a bunch for the past several months trying to get my bearings on shotguns and have gotten A LOT of great information.

I have narrowed down my shotgun purchase to two choices, both browning cynergy 12ga. Either the field 28" or the euro sporting 28" or 30". CDNN has the field for $1299 and the sporting for $1699 brand new!

Gun will be used for skeet and sometimes trap. If I do some comps later it would probable be in skeet. I guess my big question would be is the sporting worth the extra $400? Everyone is different, i know, but I do not mind spending the extra money to do it right the first time if I sm going to be happier 20 years from now.

Thanks and I look forward to hopefully contributing to your threads very soon!

Greetings atlshooter, and welcome aboard

Since you don't give model specifics it's hard to know exactly which guns you have in mind. Any recommendation assumes the guns in question fit you properly or will be easily modified to do so. Since trap and sleet are at opposite ends of the clay target games, any gun intended to be used for both will be a compromise.

Based upon only barrel length, I'd recommend the 30-inch for both games. Many target shooters prefer a semi-bevertail forearm with finger grooves; but most of the Cynergy forearms tend towards the Schnable style. Since there are many similarly named Cynergy variations available, so without seeing a side-by-side comparison of the specs, it's hard to make a recommendation.

You mentioned, "I do not mind spending the extra money to do it right the first time if I am going to be happier 20 years from now." Don't expect to be happy with a compromise gun for any significant length of time. Based on you questions, I'm assuming your new to shotgunning, otherwise you already know the answers to your questions.

Most new shooters tent to favor one of the shotgun sports over the others. There are many factors involved in determining to which one you'll gravitate. In the process they need a gun, or guns, that will perform adequately in the various sports.

Once you settle into your favorite sport, naturally you'll want to shoot your best. You'll soon become aware that the limitations of a all-purpose gun are holding back your development, and you'll start looking for a gun that's specifically designed for that sport. Your all purpose gun will see less and less action. As you progress, you'll want still more advanced custom guns that are better suited to your shooting style and abilities. This is one reason there are so many used all-sports guns available.

A young child want to see a shiny new Schwinn under the Christmas tree, but you won't see that bike at the Tour de France. In many ways, shotguns are like bicycles.

Like Zippy mentioned, its hard to tell what guns you are looking at - the euro sporting is no longer an offered model in the cynergy line / but all they probably did was rename it or something ....

The real answer is whatever fits you / so it hits where you look - and you will have to do your best to make that judgement in the store - then check it at the pattern board. ??

mechanically all of the cynergy lineup is the same in terms of receiver, receiver to barrel connection, firing pins, etc ...the obvious differences in terms of length of barrel, cosmetic things - and the drop at comb, drop at heel vary a little from model to model ...

Like Zippy - I would probably say go with a 30" barrel. Part of the price difference might be that one gun comes with more chokes too. Pick the one that fits the best ...
