Cylinder wont lock in.

Seems the cylinder release is staying forward and cylinder wont stay shut and keeps swinging open. What could be wrong?

I manually pulled it back and made sure cylinder would lock (with a real hard hit to get in) but on reloads the problem happens again. Used to be smooth to open too and now its stiff.

Your description is vague, but try this:
The latch for the cylinder mebbe has a return spring that's either gone missing or lost it's oomph.
If the latch is held in place with a screw, remove the screw and latch button and check.
Also check to see if there's a piece of something in the hole in the rear of the frame where the cylinder pin goes.

Yep its my taurus. I asked owner i bought it from, and neither him or owner before ever changed out any springs, and being an 1988 i think i may have some worn out ones.
 
Noticed it is almost definitely a problem with the cylinder release. how does the release mechanism work? is it a spring operated part?
 
The cylinder release mechanism works the same as the S&W. The thumb button is attached to the bolt, a part that pushes the center pin forward and out of its seat in the rear of the frame at the same time pushing in the front lock; the result is that the cylinder is unlocked and free to swing out on the crane.

The bolt is spring loaded forward, so when the cylinder is swung out, it is flush with the frame at the back. The center pin spring pushes the bolt back when the cylinder is closed so the end of the center pin fits into the hole in the frame.

It sounds like the center pin spring is missing. Did you take the cylinder assembly apart and lose that spring, maybe?
