Cylinder to barrel alignment

On S&W revolvers what procedure is followed in fine tuning each chamber on a cylinder to the best possible alignment with the bore?

You have to accept that if the revolver is too far off, its due to manufacturing and there's only so much you can do about that.

In general, alignment is adjusted by working on the individual lug on the ejector and the locking bolt in the frame. If you have one chamber that's off, you can usually fix it this way.
If you have several off, you may not be able to get it perfect.
At least in the old days, you seldom found a Colt or S&W that was off too much.
These days?????

What you are talking about is called ranging, and is done with a recision-ground rod that fits into the bore. You can buy one from Brownells.
