Just what are the factors to be considered when installing a new cylinder into your weapon? ive only read about the issue of the cylinder hand and ratchet star engagement, and chamber/barrel alignment.
Im curious because most manuals never refer to the alignment of the cylinder stop and the retention holes. and ive never seen any manual or text that discusesses how to make sure that the factors of
-chamber/bore allignment
-hand/ratchet alignment
-cylinder stop/cylinder stop hole
are solved for the new cylinder, together with how to make sure that everything else lines up when one factor is solved for.

DROP THE CYLINDER IN, COCK IT, SEE HOW IT FITS AS IS FIRST- MANY TIMES BY SWAPPING CYLS. YOU CAN FIND ONE THAT WORKS RIGHT OFF WITH NO MODS

BUY A BUNCH OF KIT GUNS, OR GUN PARTS- BY THE TIME YOU BUILD 5 GUNS, YOU'LL FIND OUT WHAT MAKES THEM WORK- IT'S SOMETHING YOU LEARN BY DOING

IT HAS TO ALIGN AS PERFECTLY AS POSSIBLE, OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO MODIFY CYLINDER STOPS BY WELDING THEM UP AND RECUTTING ON AN INDEXING FIXTURE

-hand/ratchet alignment

SELF ALIGNING IN MOST CASES, GUIDED BY HAND CHANNEL AND HAMMER HAND HOLE

-cylinder stop/cylinder stop hole

SELF ALIGNING SIDE TO SIDE IN MOST CASES, UNLESS IT HAS WEAR IN FRAME, OR HAND WAS FILED TOO MUCH. SOME REMINGTON SLOTS MUST BE FILED FORWARD TO FIT BOLT IN

CASE BY CASE BASIS, EACH GUN HAS IT'S OWN PROBLEMS/CHALLENGES

At the most you'll have a snug fitting Conversion Cylinder and trim a maybe .001" off the frame per instructions or off the cylinder as I do. (i.e. R&D Dropin...)

Cylinder in C&B are mostly of same OAL per Mfg. Differing between various Mfg. Most Italian cylinders can be fiited to work in another mgf.'s Rev...
Most definately after OAL fit the centering of the camber to the bore/forcing cone would be most important ... hopefully the hand fit should remain the same.
