Anybody have one of these? I just ordered one on Gunbroker and was wondering what size lead ball it takes. Also what is a good load for it. Thanks.

i use a a.440 or 445 round ball and about 15-20 grains goex black powder, just remember that it is a belly gun and if you think that at 15 yards its going to be a tack driver its not , but its fun to shoot and make noise with, I had ignition trouble with it with number 11 caps, so I just bought a musket nipple and have sure fire. have fun ..75

The mainspring is a little weak on mine, but I've found that using plastic caps (as in cap pistol) instead of percussion caps will fire every time. Like the other fella' said, it's no tack driver, but it's fun to shoot.

BTW, I've loaded mine up to 30 to 40 grains of fff powder. There is substantially more recoil, but the barrel is the same strength as that of the .45 cal. rifles they make.

Those CVA's are cute li'l things, and well built too. They use a coil spring instead of a leaf spring which helps a lot. Two of these came without trigger guards, so I fabricated them out of a piece of 1/2" x .085" flat brass stock from the hobby shop.

Thanks guys. I got mine and bought some .440 hornady balls for it. Think I will try 30 grains of fffg and a .015 patch.
