CVA Buckhorn or Traditions Sporter Mag 209?

I'm considering my first muzzle loading 209 primed rifle and these two rifles jump out at me as considerable bargains, both available for far less than $200. Problem is they look highly similar to me! Anyone have any opinions or experience with them? Anything to recommend one over the other?

My first muzzleloader was the CVA Buckhorn Mag. Great shooting gun- very accurate. However, that bolt action got really old really quickly. After only one season, I dumped to buy a more modern design. The bolt action is a pain to prime. I was always dropping the primer before I could get it seated (and I don't have big hands so that wasn't the problem). Reloading at the range was slow. I like to remove the breech plug between shots and wet swab to prevent the dreaded "crud ring". Having to pull the bolt and unscrew the breech plug through the bolt hole was a pain.

With a modern design - either break open or falling block - you have easy access to the primer pocket and the breech plug is easier to remove.

Look for a T/C Omega Z5. I paid $200 on clearance at Walmart.

I think they are both good. I have the CVA Buckhorn .50 cal. I got it at wal-mart for $99(it was on sale). So, you can't go wrong...they are both good guns. :)

i have the buck horn as a first gun i would say its ok. It has no bells and whistles and takes a while to clean. for a future inline for sure i would like one of those drop down barrels so you dont need a priming tool and the barrels are so easy to take apart. but as a first gun its ok.

The Buckhorn stock is very ergonomic & comfortable but may be just a little bit longer than the Traditions. But the Buckhorn stock has raised "bumps" on its surface instead of checking like the Traditions.
The Buckhorn butt pad is also thicker and more shock absorbing.
The Buckhorn has a "false" muzzle for bullet alignment which I don't think the Traditions rifle has.
The Buckhorn has a lighter trigger pull weight.
Although not identical, both actions are very similar.
If I had to choose between the 2, I would buy the Traditions because I like the slightly shorter stock, especially for winter deer hunting season with heavy clothing on. I like the shorter barrel because 22 inchers handle better for me.
I don't like false muzzles but I do like fixed 4 power scopes. :)

The Traditions certainly looks like the bargain given all the extras you get with the package.

What are the better features of the Accura and Wolf?

Thanks,
Oly

easier cleaning, easier to load, the accura has the bergara barrel which looks like a high $$$$ custom made barrel when you look down the bore.

Heres some Accura info:

The wolf is a neat little rifle thats great for the beginner or even for the seasoned muzzleloading hunter who wants a low priced, reliable, accurate muzzleloader.

If i didnt own the accura, i could easily own the wolf and be happy.
