Don't know how long this has been going around but I received this email this morning and thought you might be interested (see attached pics). Sorry, I don't know any details other than what's quoted below. Which gun from your arsenal would you like to have on hand if you ran into this big guy? FYI, Conroe is just north of Houston.


Cute little Texas pig ........That was killed in the town of Cut-N-Shoot TX. We call them Piney Wood Rooter's.

Over 1,800 lb. wild boar shot and killed in Conroe , Texas near the
County Airport, East of I-45 and near the community of Cut and Shoot.
Killed by a medical Radiology worker...What would you do if this beast
was coming at you? Run for dear life? Climb a tree or simply get run over?

Yep.......only in Texas ! We were taught to stand still because there eye sight is poor. By standing still they probably would not see you and walk right on by. And No, you can't out run them!! Look at how tall the grass and weed's are. How fast do you think you would be running thru that?

I am willing to bet dollars against doughnuts that the truck is not in america...
The hog is under 700 pounds...
Is a breed not found in america...
The last photo clearly shows the edge of a bluff to right of pig and the "host" is standing many feet below the hog...

Lastly, when have you ever seen that euro model truck (not an suv) in the states?

The guides will often do the same sort of trick to make a Bear look bigger. Have the hunter sit back 5 or so feet and he looks smaller next to the critter. That's why you don't see anybody touching the pig. To answer your question... I'd use my Marlin 1895 GS 45-70 with 405 gr. Hard Cast boolits.
 
781 lbs, 1,800 lbs, what's a thousand pounds or so between friends? OK, so it's a slight exaggeration . . . OK, a major exaggeration . . . OK, a flat-out pile of BS . . . but hey, it is a hog, right?

I guessed it at about 700 lbs before I read the article, and definitely a real Russian boar, but come on, folks, stretching the truth a little don't hurt it, but that size story just flat screams BS. And the pictures: if you want to be credible, stand in front of the animal when you take the picture. Like Hogzilla: first they claimed it was a wild boar 12 feet long and weighed 1,200 lbs, then when people started asking about it, the pig shrunk up a bit to 10 feet long and 1,100 pounds. But when National Geographic went and dug it up, it turned out to be a 8 foot long 800 lbs domestic pig. And let's not forget Fred the Pig, either. So, long story short (a little late for that now, ain't it??:rolleyes:), if we're going to exaggerate, don't get carried away.
 
Ok stretched truth, yes but I have seen some 150 lbs pigs that looked that big and scary when confronted in tight, thick quarters and charging!
 
This photo has been posted in this forum previously by a guy claiming he shot it in Queensland , Australia. I guess anyone can post a photo & lay claim to it over the internet.

It was shot in Turkey. Check the name and logo on the vehicle and compare with the logo from this web site...http://www.naturetours.com.tr/nature_eng.html

If you search the site, you will find pics of the pig there. Supposedly, it was a record pig in Turkey, but I would have to to a lot more digging to find that information again and that isn't happening this morning.
 
I wouldn't shoot that hog. It wouldn't be fit to eat and would be better left to breed little tasty shoats.
 
I wonder if they meant 'By the time we dragged it to the truck, it felt like it weighed 1,800 pounds'?
Still a neat photo.
 
I think the pictures are real - but like wyobohunter and Scorch have remarked - it is about the distances to the camera.
Even touching the animal is not good enough because the hunter can always lean back - I always push my fish forward to make them look bigger in pictures (I know what they really looked like but others are impressed).
