Custom Sharps Rifle?

Howdy Folks,

I'm certain this has been asked before my time, but is there an outfit that custom builds Sharps Rifles out there? Caliber, Barrel Lenght, Furniture and such?

I keep having these daydreams about having a Sharps in a 7mm with a 32" or34" barrel with fancy furniture to spend some weekends with out at the long range. Steel plates at 750 to a 1000 yards would sound pretty cool with a vintage style long gun.

Any info or ideas anyone?

Thanks,,

Thanks for the info, I've looked at those web sites and didn't see where they offer a 7mm caliber. I've been "Surfing The Web" in search of a 7mm Sharps Repro and haven't had much luck so far. That's why I thought I would ask here to see if anyone might know of a "custom" shop that doe's odd ball stuff like this.

Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it.:)

Turnbull and Shiloh, being custom makers, might entertain your thoughts of a 7mm Sharps... but unless you contact them directly, you won't know. Personally, I don't believe they'll do it... but it won't hurt to ask.

Hello, I doubt either Shilo or C. Sharps would chamber one of their rifles in
7X57. The closest they chamber is .30-40 Krag..aside from the greater pressure..the 7mm is a rimless case..something neither of the Sharps are able to handle. If you really want a 7mm Sharps...The Colt-Sharps were made in 7X57..this was a modernized version of the original Sharps-Borchardt hammerless..but they are pretty scarce.

If you want a hammer gun that was originaly chambered in 7X57, look for a Remington rolling block. You can find them for $400-800 online.

Shiloh says their rifles will stand Ruger Only .45-70 loads at 40,000 CUP.
So, considering the smaller head diameter they would probably be JUST usable with 7x57 at 45,000 CUP. 7x57R ammunition is available.

Now all you have to do is to find a gunsmith willing to put on a barrel running right at the safety margin for the action.

Or man up and shoot .45x2 7/8" like the real 1000 yard Sharps shooters.

The Browning B78 and 1885 have been made clear up to 7mm RM for an easier entry.

You might call these folks and pick their brains. They make Sharps customs in smaller calibers, like .32-40, and .22LR. If anyone can put you in the right direction, it might be these guys. LINKY! I'm thinking a Sharps in .30-30 might be a lot of fun. Then too, if you're just dead-set on a 7mm, then a 7-30 Waters might be a consideration.

Thanks Paw Paw, I appreciate the info. I'll give them a holler and see what comes of it. The Little Sharps Company looks like they might be just what I've been looking for.

Look at the 7x65R, great 7 mm rimmed cartridge, you can get both cheap S&B ammo and very nice hunting cartridges from Norma etc. A bit more power than the 7x57, but save for break actions and similar weaker actions.
