Custom rifle using Charles Daly action--What caliber?

I have two Charles Daly long Mauser actions in the white, #CDGM2206, that say "7x57mm - 30-06" on the box. I would like to use these as platforms to build two custom deer/elk guns and already have a 30-06. What calibers will these actions handle without any major modifications?

25-06
270
280
35 Whelen
338-06
8X57 Mauser

Essentially any long action round with a .473 bolt face. You could also use them for short action rounds like the 308, 260 Rem or 243, but why would you want to?

You can build anything you want based off .30-06, .308, .284, and 57mm cases as well as some others. You don't have to limit yourself just to long action cartridges. I have a .243 Win Parker Hale that is built on a Mauser long action. Where does you intrest lie and we can point you towards a few cartridges. You can have the action opened up to feed cartridges as large as the .458 Win as well.

I built a .25-06 off of a Zastava Mauser action same as the Charles Daly.

Thanks, elkins45. The 25-06 and the 35 Whelen definitely interest me. Two distinctive cartridges with the same action and a wide range of bullets available. Those would cover any type of hunting that I will ever do here in Oregon.

God I love those Mauser actions and rifles. Not the WW II 98, the newer versions like in the pic above. I always wanted a Browning with the Mauser action. If the CZ's weren't so damn expensive (for me) I'd have one of those.

nice rifle taylorce1

There's also a lot to be said for a custom 6.5x55 Swede on one of those Mauser 98's - after all, Scandanavians have been regularly taking Moose (Elg) with the chambering for the last 100+ years, and it's never failed me on deer, either.

.

I haven't measured one in a while but I think the Chas Daly magazines are long enough to make the most out of the 338/06 and 35 Whelen. I picked up several of these actions before they became extinct.
