Custom Rifle Build ?sss

I have a Remington 700 LVSF in .204 Ruger. I don't care for the cal. I'm wanting to have it rebarreled with a 20" or 22" medium-heavy weight barrel in either .22-250 or .308. I know that in doing this I'll have to have the bolt face opened up. My main questions are, will the .204 action hold up to either of these two cartridges? Is there a decent quality($300-$400 range) barrel out there? Pre-chambered, pre-threaded(ie those are done from where ever I buy the barrel from). Or rifeled blank finished buy the smith I take the gun to? What is the guest-imitation cost of this project? Thanks.

If you decide to go .308, you are better off selling this rifle and buying a new one. If you spend $400 on a barrel, then you'll probably paying something like $200 for installing and chambering the rifle. Throw in opening up the bolt face and you have put a heck of a lot of money into this rifle when you could have been better off just selling it and buying the one you want. Call around to some smiths in your area and ask about rebarreling prices, that should give you an idea. Also look around at what barrel you want. Lots of good ones out there.
