Custom painted Rifles thread!

I like to see the paint jobs people do on their own. I decided my .22 rifle needed one, I always liked the tiger-stripe camo so I used netting and created my own little take off that idea:

Good old Krylon Flat Black and Italian Olive color. Dried and then multiple cured coats of AlumihydeII Clear Matte epoxy over it.

That looks pretty good. And using the net as a template...great idea!

I did a paint job with my Marlin 795, but I am going to need a good camera to capture the details.

Here's what I did:

1) Spray paint the entire gun brown

2) Use a sponge or steel wool to "stipple" the entire stock

3) Let dry

4) Find broken twigs around the backyard. Use that as a stencil, and spray paint green over it


Overall it looks pretty good and the stippling is a huge improvement over the factory stock.
 
Yea, the nets worked out good. One big one first, then some drywall mesh tape over that. The best part about the drywall mesh is that it's already sticky so it won't come off or raise up while you're spraying.

That's a good idea with the steel wool and twigs. What kind of spray paint you gon'na use? I just got flat black engine enamel for another project ;)
 
Ehh I'd say that's cheating a little bit there stealth..... But it does look pretty sweet, I really like it!

It came to me in grey/white/black camo.

A bad joke turned it pink and purple (with the "blue flamer" barrel).
It grew on me. :o

The bottom image is what it looked like, after I refinished it, to sell it (a few years later).

(Mossberg 800BSM in .243 Win, that left the factory as a prototype for their "Scoped Police" model.)

Man, I used flat black auto enamel on something and today I got GunScrubber sprayed on it and it ate the enamel right off! W t f ?

Back to epoxy paints for me I guess...
