Custom Mosin Nagant

Hey guys just wanted to show pics of a recent build I did for a good friend. he bought 2 surplus mosin nagants and restored one original and the other one he gave to me to modernize. kept the original barrel because it was brand new and it would be a shame to get rid of it for now. did a smooth and tune on all the internals and the bolt. brought the trigger down to about 3 1/2 pounds and made a complete stock out of aluminum to keep it lightweight, hydrodipped the whole thing in digital camo and Teflon moly coated the bolt and sights OD Green to compliment the dip, reason I used Teflon coating is because the Teflon has a slick feel to it and works awesome on the bolt. the result is badassery. thinking about reproducing these to sell in the near future.

It reminds me of a "survival gun" almost. You oughtta make the stock hinge sideways for throwing it in a hunting pack or something

Sorry, you had me really interested until you threw in the badass comment. Not what I would consider as professional....maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Well I feel pretty proud when I make something original and from scratch. You should too. I like it. It's "Badass". :p

I care not for collectors value so good for you.

I'm not sure...

Not many things make me feel unsure. Either I like it or don't. It's therefore unique, to my mind at least.

P.S. I would like to know how it groups with that stock compared to the wooden stock. How's it bedded to the aluminum stock?

Does feel a bit odd commenting to a competitor by the same name, but...

Receiver chassis systems are all the rage these days.

AICS, XLR, McRee's, KRG...there are many.

I've seen other one-off's done- and contemplated for production.

Problem is that chassis systems like those above for the 700 platform are built around precision machined receivers with tolerances to within a few ten-thousandths.

It's one thing for a receiver to "fit" into a stock (wood, aluminum, glass- take your pick)- but for any type of accuracy, it needs to be a precise fit with an aluminum chassis.

I'd love to do an aluminum bedding block for the Mosin- but haven't for this very reason.

We can't even begin to talk these kinds of numbers with the Mosin-Nagant. Our wood and laminate stocks (as others by Boyd's and Richard's) are intentionally left slightly "proud" by design to allow for some minimal fitting by the owner due to variations in receiver dimensions.

You'd never get an aluminum chassis system to work as a "one size fits all" for this platform. Could be overcut, and then the receiver epoxy bedded for a precise fit, but that's the only way I could see it working.

How would one get an aluminum chassis that would fit both of these?
