When I expressed my desire to replace my S&W 4516-1 with something smaller & lighter in the same .45ACP caliber, my (new) wife didn't seem to be concerned. When the Ultra CDP caught my eye, I thought she might bulk.
Instead - she bought it for me as my birthday gift!
I have no complaints with this weapon. It is accurate & reliable. I will admit, that my Classic Stainless (bought a few months later) seems to have just as smooth & as light a trigger pull, & I shoot it a little more accurately - not a surprise given the extra 2" of barrel. Both have nice slide to frame fit - just a hint play when tugging on the slide one way & pushing on the frame another. Neither have the "1911 rattles" - & they shouldn't.
The only problem I have had was when shooting 230g ball ammo. The gun fed, shot, & ejected fine - but the slide would lock back prematurely. Turns out this isn't all that rare with any short slide 1911, as the top round of the mag jumps forward a little under recoil and the fat profile of the bullet strikes the tab on the slide lock, pushing it up & activating it. Rather than calling Kimber, I simply changed the profile a little with some small diamond files & a stone or 2. It seems to be fine now - although when a friend shot it, it failed to lock back when the slide was empty - I may have taken a little too much off. If so, I understand a Wilson piece works great.
I think you'll be happy with your purchase!
