custom ak decision.

I have for a while wanted a krebs custom ak-103k rifle, but could not justify the price. In my mind it looks better than a standard ak with it's short barrel and muzzel break. I found something interesting out though and decided to ask your opinion. I could either get a production line Krebs gun or I could get an SAR-1, swap out the stock for a bulgarian plastic one, and send it to a custom AK smith for an overhaul, including chopping the barrel and mounting a break just like the krebs, but instead of standard work, it will include a full parkarization, Target crown, Lazer aligned lathe cutting, cryo tempering and re-mounting the sight perfectly verticle(sometimes SAR's are crooked i hear) replacing the trigger with high quality american parts, and a trigger job. the whole thing, including the rifle will cost less than 2/3 of the krebs. I think maybe this is the way to go. I know the old saying , "silk purse from Sow's ear" but from the two saiga's i've seen, both shotguns, neither of them were spit polished and shined on the inside either. perhaps the machineing marks were lighter but they were still there. Am i completely crazy, or mildly ignorant to the workings of the AK-47 world, or does this make sense. BTW i choose the sar-1 because it has a side scope rail on it, and because it is the cheapest ak I would buy and still have faith in.

I think you'd probably spend as much, maybe more, building it instead of buying the Krebs gun.

About the only time I'd consider doing another kit build up is if I was going to do something that wasn't readily available.
