Curious... what cartridge does this gun likely shoot ???

AKA .380 British or .380 Revolver, a common caliber for those pistols. It is not quite identical to the .38 Short Colt, but the latter will usually fit the European revolvers.

Maker and model would help, I have seen pin fire guns similar in appearance so I wouldn't shoot anything in it till I was sure of what it was.
 
It's pretty evident from the configuration that it's not a pinfire.

Jim's right. The old .380 Revolver was known in much of Europe as 9.5mm.

The .380 became the basis for the .38 Short and Long Colt cartridges.
