M Mike Irwin Staff Jun 9, 2011 #4 It's pretty evident from the configuration that it's not a pinfire. Jim's right. The old .380 Revolver was known in much of Europe as 9.5mm. The .380 became the basis for the .38 Short and Long Colt cartridges.
