Picked up another little estate of reloadimg gear, included was a large desks draw of loose bullets and brass........*sigh* here we go again...

One of the bullet types that was rolling around in the dust and mouse turds were some 100 grain, .3085 bullets, shaped like an old round nose pistol bullet, half jacketed up the base, round lead "point".
I just cant figure out what these curious little bullets would go in. Thoughts?

light .308 bullets

Check out the "Hornady Bullets 30 Carbine (308 Diameter) 100 Grain Short Jacket Soft Point"...

Another company had a similar bullet...

"Look at Speer #1805"

Yes, that is the other bullet I was trying to think of...

Dufus you nailed it. Thats the exact bullet. Cute little things! Seems folks use for all kinda stuff from 300 black out to -06 plinkers. Perhaps I can find a use for them after all.

The Speer 100gr .308 "plinker" was bullet I used ages ago, when beginning reloading. Cheaper then "fully jacketed", cheapest .30 bullet you could get, so of course, we used a bucket full of them.

Hornady was almost the same thing, 1/2 jacket, had more of a point than the speer, which was round nosed.

Used them in various .308 and .30-06 rifles. Some blazing speed possible with that light slug.

Accuracy, on the other hand wasn't as good as regular "deer bullets", especially if you pushed the little 100gr slugs fast.

Many say they do well in the .30 Carbine, I've never used them that way, so I can't say. Pretty sure I have a box or two of them still in my stuff, somewhere. haven't loaded or shot any for years...

back in the 70s, if you didn't cast your own,(or buy bulk military surplus) the Speer/Hornady plinkers were the cheapest .30 bullets you could get, commercially.

Can be a good "pest" bullet in any .30 rifle, loaded light. Useful in a .30-30, as long as you single load them. Not well suited for crimping, can get shoved back into the case in a tube magazine

100 grain Speer "Plinkers". If you didn't cast bullets these were ideal for target , tin can and small game . I thought Speer had discontinued them but they are still shown in Speer's #14 loading manual, and available from Midway.
Neat little bullets and if you load 30 carbine an excellent soft point.

"...100 grain Speer "Plinkers"..." Yep. Semi-jacketed and made for .30 Carbine(the Speer 110 HP is better though) and other .308" family cartridges as varmint bullets.
"...thought Speer had discontinued them..." Nope. Shown on their site as a Jacketed Soft Point 'Target' bullet. More soft point than jacket though.
