CT compliant AR question

Can you "legally" replace the muzzle break on a CT compliant AR?

I have a Stag Model 1 AR. The muzzle break is pinned, but I do believe its threaded on, then pinned. I want to replace it with one that I am making. So, i was thinking of drilling the pin out, putting on the new muzzle break, an of course, re-pinning.

Is there something that legally stops me from doing this?

I would be inclined to think that it would be legal as long as it it within the same specs as the stock muzzle break... I dont know CTs criteria for allowed and disallowed breaks but if it's the same size it'll probably be alright, you may have to check with state police about it first, just to be safe

Was thinking about doing mine as well. Damn thing is LOUD! Anyway, call Ernie at the outpost Guns and Ammo in Montville Ct. I think he did one for a someone but that pin is super hard. Went thru a couple of bits.

carbide is a wonderful thing my friend..... ;)

just outta curiosity, a threaded barrel is a no-no for CT. But would a threaded muzzlebrake be?

Lol, it was carbide bits he was using! Not sure what you mean. One end male and the other female? If i'm not mistaken, the pinned brake you have is threaded and this is the only configuration CT allows.

i dont think it'll be a problem getting the pin out. im a machinst by trade, and have drilled many a pin out! LOL!

What I meant by a threaded muzzle break is a male thread on the end, so that i could thread on a suppressor..... ;)

not sure if that would be considered a "threaded barrel"

So am I. I don't believe you can because that is outside the normal description of a muzzle brake. You can call Ernie or the state police though.

Im in nJ, I think even more restrictive than you guys up north. I have a Bushmaster HBAR 14.5" with an AK-74 Muzzle brake 'permanently' factory installed.

I checked with a gunsmith, he said yeah he could remove it and replace and then make the new one 'permanent' for me. The thing is, he's like, it's going to be $100 minimum for him, possibly $200. Then the cost of the device, - a BattleComp 1.5" is like $150 bucks- I mean, a LOT. Just for giggles, I looked up the cool looking device on Mk 12 SPRs - that's over $200 for the device (Ops Inc I think its called). So we're talking about the cost of a new upper basically. My carbine sure it's loud and it makes a big flash. But, on the plus side, it has excellent recoil and muzzle climb reduction and hey- in SHTF I don't care what people think, and at the range, I don't care what people think. So , it's still my primary carry carbine and I'm still happy with it.

I just can't justify $350 for a new muzzle device.
