CRUFFLER.COM 1911s

Cruffler.com has been selling Argentine 45s for quite a while, so I ordered 2, one made in Argentina on Colt machinery, and one made by Colt in Hartford. Haven't gotten the Hartford gun yet but the Argentine gun is superb. identical and interchangable to colt gun, mine has all matching number parts, excellent+ condition, armory refinished, best of all $300. and it's a C&R gun. comes right to your door avoiding that pesky $25. FFL transfer fee.

Oh yes, it's shoots like a dream, put a couple dozen mags through it with no hangups (didn't like my expensive Pachmyerss though).

Highly recommend it, and Adam at Cruffler gives good professional service.

ps, the first one is so good that I ordered a second one.

I have the same $299 gun from Cruffler.com, and it sounds identical to yours. I rate it as one of the remaining bargains in handguns, where else can you get a 100% Colt compatible 1911 for $300?

Whoa, to your door?

I've been talking this beauty up to all my friends and referring it on TFL, but I didn't know we could get it to our doors? You sure you don't have to be a CRFFL? I'm gonna have to scrape around some pennies, now...:D

In order to have the Argentine Colt or any other C&R weapon sent to YOUR door, you have to send them a signed copy of your C&R license. If you don't have a C&R license you can have it sent to a local FFL.Ordering a C&R from the ATF for $30 is well worth the $$ if you wanna order more great oldies.Be careful though, it gets addicting.

norielX,

You do indeed have to have a C&R FFL to get such items shipped directly to your house. OTOH, for $30 you get to buy all the 50+ year old guns you want with no FFL transfer fees, that should make you think about it. Add to the fact that Midway, Brownells, and several other places give you trade discounts if you have a C&R, and it's pretty nutty not to go for it.

BTW, one of the frequent knocks on the C&R is people think you have to turn your records over to the BATF if you every decide to let the license lapse. The most recent C&R list has a very plain statement that you do NOT have to do that, since that is a provision for business. With that in mind, the more paranoid among us should sit up and take notice. Those guns are less "documented" than guns you buy through an FFL! I suspect that very few collectors are criminals, so this has never been an issue with the BATF, who knows. In any case, the government knows I have a bunch of guns, knowing about a couple more isn't much of an issue...

I was considering getting my C&R FFL, but I was thinking of all the "strings" attached when doing so. By having a C&R, don't you give up a lot of your privacy, like you do with a regular FFL? Can the BATF go search your house any time they want to? I think I can get a $5 transfer locally, and I'd rather do that than give up some privacy. I'll go read some CRFFL faq's now...

There is a possibility of the local ATF office wanting to check your books once or twice a year (I believe that is the legal limit to prevent harassment, but do not quote me on it), but unlike a dealer, it is done at your convenience and at either the location listed on the C&R or at the local ATF office and at a time you choose (They do not visit you at random, unlike a dealer). Of course, if you choose to have it at the ATF office, you have to load all the guns on your book (only your C&R guns) in the car and drive them there. Also, most ATF offices do not have time to bother C&Rs, they are busy helping the local hog farm with the feeding while searching for moonshiners and tobacco smugglers. ;)

If you are a C&R, all of the C&R eligible guns you buy while you have the liscense must be in your book, you do not have a seperate private collection of C&R guns (a dealer can have a private collection of guns that are not for sale, so they can check guns out of the book as transfered to their private collection), as your bound book is the record of your collection from the time you get the liscense to the expiration date.

Yes, you do have to have a C&R FFL to get these guns, but it's easy to get an FFL, less complicated than filling out a 4473. If you like old guns at bargain prices, it's the way to go. I got one of those Moisen Nagant M44 rifles from AIM for $29.99, that's right, $29.99 (as seen on TV folks), it's in unissued condition, except for a couple of dings on it's laminated stock.

Just curious..if you get a C&R license and decide to eventually sell one of the weapons, how do you go about it?

Do private C&R collections have to be sold to an FFL?

Redlg155: To sell a gun from your C&R collection you:

1. Check their DL to make sure they are legally allowed to purchase the firearm. (Stick to selling to residents of your state)
2. Ask them if they are not allowed to own a firearm for any reason (You can try listing all the conditions on the 4473 if you want such as domestic violence, felony conviction, illegal resident, etc, some photocopy the purchasers DL as extra insurance)
3. Record their DL info in your bound book under the section relating to who the firearm was transferred to.
4.Write out a reciept listing the serial number of the firearm
5. Both parties sign the reciept and the cash is exchanged.

No 4473s, no NICS, its a private sale. Of course, your state laws could require a NICS check or something. For example, in MD C&Rs cannot receive handguns in the mail or sell them as a private sale (all handguns must go thru special dealers).

I've already saved my $30 from the C&R license.By ordering an Argentine Colt and having it sent to my house I avoided the $35 FFL transfer fee my local dealer charges.I also get a discount from Brownells on all the upgrades and add-ons I order.ATF sent mine within a month of receiving my check.Subscribe to Shotgun News and you'll find all the sales on many C&R weapons.

The only bad thing about having a C&R is it could make ya go broke:eek:

AT THE RISK OF GOING BROKE. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT
I HAVE TO DO TO GET A C&R LICENSE. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

bigfoot4

1) call or email ATF for C&R license application

2) fill out application

3) send one copy to local police chief and 2nd copy to ATF along with $30

4) wait by the mailbox for license.ATF says it take anywhere from 1-4 months.

5) big info packet will come in mail either before or after license with all gun regulations, etc.

BATF's National Licensing Center:

Phone: 404-417-2750 (M-F 8A.M.-4:30P.M. EST)

E-mail: NLC@atla1.atf.treas.gov

Website: www.atf.treas.gov

Hope this helps and good luck!

Besides calling or writing the BATF, you can go out to their webpage, poke around, and download one. I believe that it fits 81/2 x 17 inch paper.

http://www.atf.treas.gov

Clicking the subsequent firearms link takes you to:
http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/relics/index.htm

You'll need ATF Form 7 CR, but I don't remember where it was located. I didn't find it very straightforward.

When I downloaded it, it took me awhile to first locate it. Good luck. There's also a list of C&R eligible firearms at the site, too.

Got my second one today and it's just as nice as the first one. Marked "Provencia de Buenos Aires" on slide side, and "Police Cordoba" on slide top. Perfect condition, matching numbers on slide, frame, and barrel.

Highly recommeded!!!

That's exactly the same one that I got in the mail yesterday.Excellent condition except for the magazine. It won't feed properly with anymore than 5 rounds in it.

I got some good mags that work in my guns from J&G sale,
$6.95ea. or 5.95 if you buy 5. They work in my guns.
