Hi Folks,

I am looking for a cross-draw holster for my 4" S&W 629 .44 Mag.
Can anybody here recommend one?

Have a nice day,

Yes, El Paso Saddlery makes one that I used on a six week kayak trip in Northeastern Alaska. It has a full flap cover and a canteen snap. I flipped a canoe once while wearing it, and the 629 stayed with me. Yet, the canteen snap doesn't cause problems if you need to get to your sixgun fast.

can't answer b/c mine was custom made by a guy in TX and I don't have his card w/me. I really like the crossdraw for hunting though. If you have your rifle slung over your shoulder it isn't banging against your revolver and it's easier to draw when you're sitting.

Look at Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake. With one holster you can wear it crossdraw IWB or OWB. I have one for both my S&W 686 and my Ruger Alaskan they are well built and hold the guns well with out a strap.you can also buy the extra straps and use it in chest carry.

Budget, tastes, carry...

Depending on your budget range, tastes, styles etc, there are many top notch holster makers & leather shops that could fit your need(s).
Id suggest contacting the firm first to insure they can design or craft a holster they way you want & you know how long or when you can take deliver.
Due to high demands & the increase in gun ownership in the last 4/5 years, some holsters may be delayed for long periods.

For a crossdraw DA revolver, see; Don Hume, Galco, Tex Shoemaker, El Paso Saddlery, Greg Kramer, Milt Sparks, Bianchi-intl, Kirkpatrick Leather, DeSantis.
Kramer offers horsehide(which Id suggest).
Some makers offer field holsters that can be used cross-draw or strong side.

Id suggest a decent leather or lined gun belt too. A 4" N frame will be a lot of weight on your hip(s).

Galco.....

I checked the Galco site. The Dual Phoenix will be available for the N frame S&W 4" in Dec 2013.
It's well made but I'm not thrilled with the duel screw design. :(
I could see that start to scuff, nick & gouge everything you get near.

Leather rigs; Blackhawk....

The milspec/LE gear outfit: Blackhawk, www.blackhawk.com sells a brown leather N frame revolver holster that can be strong side or crossdraw.
The only - is that it's a closed muzzle format. :(
The quality & fit look decent for a large frame 4" revolver.
The price looks decent too.

I use a Bianchi 111 Cyclone Crossdraw leather holster to carry my N frame Model 627 Pro with 4" barrel......it fits the 629 w 4" barrel as well !

Is the cross draw for filed use or CCW?

If field use I use an old Bucheimer holster.

Now this one is for my GP100 but I am sure they made it for the 629. Setup with a Blackie Collins 'Fighter Pilot' knife.
