Crocodile hunting

G'day. The Northern Territory government is considering allowing the hunting of 25 Crocodiles per year.
How much would you pay to go on a Crocodile hunt?
Do you think that 25 per year would generate much interest from international hunters?

More details on the news. They say that they might allow 600 Crocodiles to be killed each year. Of that 25 will be for Trophy Hunt purpose.

The only problem is if it was only for croc. I would not spend my hunting money on the expense of getting down under if that was the only hunt. If it was combined with some other hunting, maybe. What else might sweeten the pot?

It would be a lot cheaper for me to go hunt aligators in the southern US. Yes, I realize they are not the same, but they are "same enough" for me.

Is the crock hunt a shoot or do you subdue and then dispatch with a bang stick? I understand that a crock can be a far bigger animal than even the largest of our gators and that he may be interested in eating you as much as you are interested in him so catching him like we do gators may be unfeasible.

So how do you propose to do this thing?

This might be interesting to someone who has hunted a lot of other game around the world. I agree that there would need to be some other species available. I would guess that these hunts would be very similar to hunting croc in Africa. The "Salties" do get bigger than the Nile species but still would be a challenging hunt. As in Africa, a firm knowledge of croc anatomy would be key as they need to be anchored with the first shot.

Skulls when you say 25 crocs do you mean per person, or per year. I did hear this on the news here in Melbourne but i missed the finer points.

G'day. From what I have heard so far they are talking about allowing 600 wild crocodile to be killed per year. 25 of which will be trophy hunt, so if you could afford all 25, could I be your friend. :)

Make sure you pack a 22 and a 410 as well

:DThen you can knock off as many Cane Toads as you like as well :D

Don't worry about what else ther is to hunt..... Deer, pigs, camels, waterbuffalo, foxes, rabbits, oh, and one or two roos as well.... wouldnt be boring, thats for sure

Yes, if possible use a gun for Cane Toads. There were a few, myself included, that pulled leg muscles from kicking them in Guam. If there are as many of them, or more than there are in Guam, I'd use a .22 just for the fun of it. :D

Still wondering how the hunts will be conducted............

Will it be a shoot, slipping up on crocks on the bank or .....?

No much interested in slipping up and shooting him as he suns but to hunt him gator style, if that's possible, would be another story.

So more information please................

I think you'd fill your trophy hunts and more. There's enough wealthy hunters out there that just to be among 25, or 100, or whatever it is that gets to hunt a croc, it'd be worth it. People will definitely pay a premium to feel special and have an uncommon experience.

I am curious how it's hunted though, too. Traps or bait lines? Some sort of hybrid fishing-hunting? Taking a shot on land and then tracking if the croc moves would sound interesting, but probably raises a lot of practical problems once they hit murky water.

Looking a few web sites like the one above it seems that the chances of catching a crocodile ( And it appears too that it would have to be a SALTWATER not a Johnsons to be large. ) of any real size, say over a 1000 pounds is rather slim.

I'd take a note out on the home to have a real chance at catching a 6 meter (17 foot and I'm guessing almost 1500 pounds ) specimin but if the reality of it is that we're talking 10 to 13 foot crocodiles then I'd just as soon chase gators as they get that big.

So more information...............please.

Combo Hunt

A combo of boar and croc would interest me. Can you export the croc hide would be one question. Second depending on hunting techiques for the croc I would have to be allow my trusty 870. For me it's 870 or I go somewhere else.
