Anyone have anything to say good or bad about Crimson Trace LG-404?? It's a hand grip mounted laser sight. I'm interested in buying one for my 1911 officer's model colt. Any opinion would by helpful!
Thanks

brand has a great rep

I have no experience with the Crimson Trace on small 1911s, but on a Glock M20 I noticed the dot on target is in constant motion......

I have them on a 642 and a glolck 26. They have made point shooting a breeze. Most of the people that I see that don't like them have not tried them but once they do it all makes sense.

You can do a search here and gets lots of threads or you can go to the CT forum. The people that run it know their stuff and their service is great.

Some people, in every discipline from archery thru handguns, cannot handle the movement of the laser on target. It's the same thing that makes some archers shoot better with a pin than they can with magnification. It's not that there is any more motion it's just that you can see it better. If you can deal with the motion you can shoot very well with a laser. I can't see how it could be anything but beneficial for SD.

I have a CT on my 642. I cant understand some peoples comments on them. I agree, I dont think they have ever used they. I like the comment (if you have CT then you can't use the gun when the battery goes)

Thats silly. I never saw a law that says you cant use your sights if you have the CT. I do 95% of my shooting using the pistols sights. But the little 642 is silver colored, I can't see the sights in the dark. I can see that little red dot thought.

Too many people trash things because they know nothing about them

Oh Well, some peopls kids.

i have CT,s on my s&w model 60 38spl. and shooting double action at 30-40 feet i can keep them under four inches shooting as fast as i can, i can shoot faster with open sights but the groups are about 8-10 inches and in low light or shooting from the hip it,s no contest the CT,s win hands down. eastbank.

Crimson Trace are good people with a good product

Crimson Trace are good people with a good product - among other virtues is the ability to aim (in some circumstances) with the pistol not raised to the face. There are small parallax issues with sighting in.

As grips Crimson Trace may suffer in that they fit most people adequately but offer neither especially thin grips for small hands nor thick grips for big hands and also don't work with some safety configurations especially some ambi safeties. Pistols with Crimson Trace installed do fit most holsters and so allow a pistol with a laser to fit most holsters.

Crimson trace

I have Crimson Trace laser sights on my .45 Kimber Compact Stainless II, Officers model frame with a 4" commander lenth barrel along with Tritium night sights. (I also have CT laser sights on my S&W J frame & my full sized 1911)
I am enormously pleased with them. Low light, indoors, cloudy outdoors, dead of night, they work superbly. Full daylight, they are not visible beyond 25 ft.
The only problem that I have seen is that after two or three magazines of factory JHP ammo, the laser gets fouled by powder gasses & becomes diffused. With reloads, I have not had this problem after more than 50 rds.
The laser is easily cleaned with the factory supplied cleaning swabs. Truth be told, if you need more than two or three magazines of .45 ACP to terminate a social encounter, the solution is not a handgun.
The CT sight is easily adjusted to match your handguns stock sights POI.

IMHO and this is definitely IMHO The Kimber compact stainless II .45 ACP with laser sight & Tritium night sights is darn near a perfect CC firearm. Easily concealed, totally reliable, usable in any condition & accurate with sufficient power to be effective.

I'm a lefty and the majority of their designs are not lefty friendly, my support hand thumb blocks the beam. I did see a version for the Glock at SHOT that is similar to the Kel Tec 32 / LCP design and I'd use that with a suitable holster. I've used the CT grips for the KT and Beretta 21 / Tomcat as a BUG and it makes shooting those little guns much easier.

I have the CTC grips on my CCO (Officer frame and Commander slide). I forget which model number it is but it has the activation buttons on both sides and not in the center. I like this style better and it gives me better control.
The company has excellent customer service and the product has definite advantages. Moving targets at night are just one, the laser will show if you have good trigger control and help get it. I like to aim at some target and then see if I am right on by turning the laser on, it helps you get a feel for instinct shooting.
i just wish they made a green grip laser.

Thanks

Thanks for all the good replies!!
I notice from the picture that the grips appear wood grained or at least a plastic version. Is this standard or an option?

If you really want to understand the usefulness of laser grips, go to Crimson Trace's webpage and order their free DVD.

I could NOT get my wife to understand why I'm saving $300 for a set to go on my SIG until she saw the video on the DVD. Now she understands.
