Crazzy Making!

Yesterday, at a local gunshop I frequent, one of the guys showed me a 5.5" 2nd Generation SAA in 45 Colt. It was in virtually like new condition and from back in the days when Colt produced a beautiful revolver (Case Color and Blue with hard rubber grips).
The asking price was $1700, which is scary considering I bought one like it back in about 1973 for $125 (of course it is long gone). Still it is a beautiful and classic handgun.
What is crazy making is that even though I can't afford this thing, I can't get it out of my mind. And no, an Italian copy will not suffice. There is something about a real Colt SAA that once you have handled and shot one, the immitations just can't match. I actually think that if I had $1700 I would be tempted to buy the thing. That makes me CRAZY!

It's a crazy world, ain't it? That's what the collectors have done for us. The gun's still only worth $125, but you gotta pay 1700 to buy it. Not me.

There is something special about a Colt SAA.

Many years ago, my mother in law asked if I knew what type of gun her husband would really enjoy owning. As it turned out, we'd talked about Colt SAA's shortly before, and he had even stated his preference for the 7.5" barrrel length. I lucked out and found a new one, and bought it for her. I was there when he received it for Christmas (the card also said "Happy Birthday, Father's Day, Anniversary, Valentine's Day, etc."), and it was touching to see that my mother in law understood that it would be a special gift.

As for the current price on the Colt's, it is unfortunate that shooters are getting pushed out of the market. It's a lot of money, but I would understand if you decided to go for it.
