Did any of you see this: On TV either Monday or Sunday, I think it was 60 minutes: The story about the emtionally disturbed young man in the AL school system? Perfect example of how insane and irrational PC crap is, and how at least some states (notably southern ones) don't put up with it!
Short description: Young man in high school is hostile to peers, has absolutely no respect for anyone including authority and peers alike. His numerous acts include: threatening to kill other students; verabally abuses teachers, students and the principle; becomes violent and fights with students and teachers; is disruptive in classes; draws violent pictures and proudly displays them (one was of beating another student to death with a baseball bat!); fights with is mother (she had to call the cops on him once) and various other bad behavior. His lawyer wouldn't let him be interviewed (more on that later), but in one part he actually spit on the 60 Minutes camera. The scary thing about that incident was his complete and utter contempt and non-chalant attitude made me think this kid has no respect for others, no empathy and simple does not care about consequences. None of the normal restraints the rest of us has were in place.
Police officers, the DA, and other individuals were interviewed and expressed concern this individual has demonstrated he is a clear and present danger to other students based upon documented violent acts. The tried to have him expelled, but could not due to federal law.
You'd think he would be expelled for being disruptive, or for being violent, or perhaps because of a zero tolerance policy, right? Well, no! Here's the rub: he was diagnoses with ADD, and is therefore considered "handicapped", and because of this was protected by federal law that says handicapped people could not be denied education. So even though other students and some teachers live in fear of this kid, he was placed back into the school. Worst part, the kid new he was "untouchable", stated such, and acted out even more because of his "untouchable" status.
Finally, the DA went to AL state court, and based on evidence of violent behavior and incorrigibility, had the kid PERMANTENTLY expelled from the ENTIRE AL public school system! Hooray for them for standing up the feds and doing the right thing. (I have to admit, at first I was skeptical they were doing the right thing, but as the segment continued I became convinced this kid could be responsible for another Columbine).
Of course, mother and kid (no father, big shock there) are suing the state, saying it's discrimination. Mother is completely convinced kid is not a danger, but just needs a little encouragement. (I think military school would be better!). And of course they interviewed a dyed int he wool liberal sponsor of the handicap anti-discrimination bill that said the kid should still be in school (nevermind it might be your kid he threatens), and this was exactly the kind of situation that would lead to widespread discrimination against handicapped kids. These guys make me sick. Endanger everyone else for the sake of one bad apple.
Doesn't anyone see this as irrational thinking, that every bad behavior is simply a handicapped to be tolerated and coddled?
But not in AL. Good for them.
