Stan Lees show Superhuman did an episode on Bob before he died a couple years ago. He was just as fast as an old man. There should be some clips out there.

Two weeks ago I was in Wyoming and visited the Cody Museum. There's a display of Bob Munden's things and a video room with a 15 minute video of him and his trick shots. Incredible and fun to watch, in addition to the indescribably huge collection of guns.

Apparently guy holds (or holded) 18+ world records at the same time!
It's not hard to hold Guiness records when you pick things that you do well and that there ARE no records for. Then you just have a few people witness you doing them, and get Guiness to put your name in the book.

Bob Munden was very fast, but his records are for things that basically have little to do with real world shooting. The video linked in the opening post is a perfect example. Look at his holster, and look at his stance. There's nothing at all practical about it at all.

The late Joe Bowman (a.k.a. The Straight Shooter), on the other hand, used fairly normal holsters and fairly normal pistols. He wasn't as fast as Bob Munden, but in a gun fight I'd rather be sided by Joe Bowman than Bob Munden. IIRC, Munden coached a number of movie and television cowboys in how to use a six-gun.

When he hits the two balloons, he hits the hammer first with his thumb and then hits it with his little finger in the same sweep.

No matter what, his speed and accuracy is impressive. I saw a show where he hits objects he throws in the air. He starts with a cabbage and works his way down to an aspirin.

He remained modest 'til the day he died.

Ummm, modest, just like his video? Seems very very down to earth and not at all proud! :D

So would you like to face him at 20 yds in an old fashioned (that didn't exist) gun fight? You'd be shot before you cleared leather.

Of course, the loads he's shooting are way low and I wonder if the projectiles are solid or have a bit of spread to them. it's still amazing that he can move that fast. I'm not so sure about .02 seconds.

Every time I've seen him shoot I cringe. It always looks like he's about to shoot his hand. I'm just waiting for him to go hopping around cursing and shaking that dang south paw
