crazy conversion question

is it possible to make a glock 17 shoot a 380 or 9x18 by just switching the barrel like you can with a 40 to 357sig? I ask because my wife is a little recoil shy and I would like her to pack something a little better than a 22. thanks for the help.

I have never heard of such an option, and I've never seen those barrels offered for the Glock. I'd consider a gun that already comes in the caliber desired, rather than attempting to convert the Glock 17. I'd recommend the Titanium S&W .32H&R Mag, but not after their sellout :) If you really want a 9x18, you'd be hard pressed to find a better gun than the Makarov for the money, less than $200 as a rule.

Another possibility is to just get her to the range for more practice, the Glock 17 isn't exactly a hard kicking gun, she should be able to get used to it.

If you want to, you could take up reloading and make her practice rounds weaker. (It's a great excuse to get into reloading.) If you can find an indoor range that sells their own reloads you might be able to talk them into making you up a special batch.

Although someone SHOULD make weaker practice rounds, sort of cowboy loads in 9mm? If all else fails, I've found Winchester White box to be the weakest factory load IMHO.

I THINK Taurus is making a revolver in 32 H&R Mag. If so, she could shoot 32 longs or even 32 shorts for softer recoil.

Good luck,
Gino
