Craigslist Bans Guns (And Scopes)?!

So apparently I can no longer post a firearm sale on craigslist.org (or anything firearms related). Anyone know when this started? In the past I've sold, bought, and traded firearms on craigslist without a problem. (It was a really GREAT place to find scopes too). Anyone else as bummed about this as me? Is there anything we can do about it?

Partial list of items the sale of which is not permitted on craigslist:
Weapons and related items, including firearms, disguised, undetectable or switchblade knives, martial arts weapons, sniper scopes, silencers, ammunition, large capacity magazines, BB guns, tear gas or stun guns

I though everyone knew that(or maybe it's just here in Austin)...Those craigslist users are sneaky too. I once tried to put a wanted ad for an SKS stock, and typed in "Samozaryadniy Karabin Simonova stock," and it got flagged in less than two hours. It took my about 12 reposts of an ad to sell a hot-rodded Ford, just because I mentioned it wasn't street legal nor would it pass EPA emmisions.

I have found that if you place a "want to buy ad" for gunsmith specials or old rifles, a lot of people will reply. I traded an old lava lamp for an old Stevens 87A about a year ago.

Sounds like a pre-emptive ploy to stifle any possible lawsuits.

I never used it myself so I won't miss it. I prefered sites that deal on a more specialized level.

There are similar sites devoted to firearms aren't there? There must be alternatives.

better safe than sorry, there's enough scamming going on there that they don't want to be held responsible for something going seriously wrong. I would do the same in their position; with all the lawyer happy people in this country the liability would not be worth it

I would set up a site specifically made for selling firearms and firearm accessories.

Don't be so quick to blame this on lawyers.

Craigslist can make rules as they see fit, and I'm glad it works that way.

But...Craigslist is no more responsible for a firearm sale where said firearm is used maliciously, than they are for an auto sale where said auto is involved in a drunk driving death.

Why would TFL, THR, Gunbroker.......etc, put their hide on the line if they could be held responsible for actions resulting from firearm sales made through their classifieds?

Why would retailers and gun shops sell firearms if they could be held liable for their use after they follow all sale/transaction laws?

I suspect Craigslist does this on their own accord.

After scanning the web it seems to me that firearms and like goods are being pulled because of the flagging sytem being abused by "anti's".

The sytem is known to be abused my "competitiors" as well in most of the catagories. Im betting they have tons of "anti's" trolling the boards just looking to flag anything that could be associated with "weapons". J

The point made about it being based in S.F. seems like pure bashing to me; if they were such liberal anti's, why even allow firearms and weapons in the first place?

I've never used Craigslist and never will.

A few years ago I heard from several different LEOs that they'd seen numerous cases of rip-offs by CraigsList "buyers" and lots of scams by "sellers".

True, there are a lot of scam emails sent to people with ads, but all sales are usually ftf. I've sold two cars and a bunch of junk on cl.

Craiglist, 25% owned by eBay, can set any policies/rules its deems best for its own self-interests. It's not a public institution.

There has been an ongoing flag/flame war going on on my local Craigslist involving firearms. It's perfectly legal in my state to do FTF transfers or firearms with a valid Drivers License. The TOS of Craigslist refer to the policies regarding firearms and such in CALIFORNIA. Those rules apply to the rest of us, I guess. It really sucks because there are some really good deals on there... for about 2 hours till they get flagged down.

hmmm ,,can't trade a scope,,,but,,an 18 year old high school girl is ok?!?!

What kinda screwed up is that?

You mean to tell me they're making transactions for sex via internet classifieds?

Which is perfectly legal as long as everybody's of age and money isn't being charged.

But yeah, the fact that this is okay but selling a firearm isnt...

What do you expect from a website that started in San Francisco? Having said that, I've sold firearms and firearms accessories in craigslist in the past without any problems.

That they sell soup in sourdough bread bowls? :D

Seems you would want to go to a firearm related forum to purchase firearms anyway.. you're more likely to find someone that cares about their equipment and keeps it in better condition.
